Manchester United have set their sights on Ederson of Atalanta. |
Manchester United are stepping up their plans to revamp their midfield as they prepare to part ways with Casemiro after this season. According to the Telegraph , the Old Trafford club have identified Ederson of Atalanta as a prominent target to fill the void left by Casemiro.
The 26-year-old midfielder is valued at between 40 and 50 million euros. This fee is considered within Manchester United's reach if they successfully offload some players who are no longer in their plans.
Director of Football Jason Wilcox is said to have a high opinion of Ederson and has been monitoring the player for a long time. Manchester United's leadership sees the Brazilian international as an energetic, strong-winning midfielder who can significantly improve the midfield.
Ederson joined Atalanta from Salernitana in 2022 and quickly became a key player in the Italian team's system. Prior to that, he played for Cruzeiro, Corinthians, and Fortaleza in Brazil.
Manchester United aren't just considering replacing Casemiro. Manuel Ugarte also faces an uncertain future after a season of limited playing time. The Uruguayan midfielder could be sold or loaned out if the club receives a suitable offer. This suggests that MU wants to add at least two new midfielders this summer.
Besides Ederson, the Old Trafford club is also monitoring several other notable names such as Aurelien Tchouameni of Real Madrid, Carlos Baleba of Brighton & Hove Albion, Adam Wharton of Crystal Palace, and Elliot Anderson of Nottingham Forest.
Among these options, Ederson stands out due to his more reasonable price and top-level Serie A experience. If the deal goes through, MU could acquire a midfielder in the prime of his career to begin a new overhaul in the midfield.
