The season of "green planting"

The rainy season is the "golden time" for the growth and development of forest trees. Taking advantage of this natural opportunity, every year, forest management agencies and units in Dong Nai province simultaneously implement plans for new planting, replacement planting, and supplementary forest planting.

These activities have contributed to increasing forest cover, protecting the ecological environment, responding to climate change, improving the landscape, promoting socio -economic development, and enhancing the quality of life for people in the province.

Racing against the "golden moment"

In recent months, many areas of Dong Nai province have experienced frequent and prolonged heavy rainfall. This provides a refreshing source of water that helps the forests regenerate and flourish, while also creating favorable conditions for planting and caring for forest trees.

At the Nui Le Sub-station (under the Xuan Loc Protective Forest Management Board), the specialized forest protection force has urgently launched a reforestation campaign on vacant land areas. According to Phan Duy Thuong, Head of the Nui Le Sub-station, the unit manages over 1,400 hectares of protective forest, with nearly 500 households participating in land allocation for forestry. In addition to patrolling and protecting the forest, forest development is also a top priority, especially planting and caring for large native timber trees such as rosewood, sandalwood, teak, dipterocarpus, and mahogany.

“Afforestation is a priority for the forestry sector in Dong Nai province in general and for forest management units in particular, and is being actively implemented. Recently, we issued a document to all forest management units to review the area of barren land and land without forest cover in order to organize afforestation and include it in the 2026 afforestation plan. In addition to replanting forests on barren land, we are also implementing silvicultural techniques to improve forest quality.”

Mr. NGUYEN VIET LONG, Head of Forest Development Department, Dong Nai Provincial Forest Protection Department

“The climate of this region is influenced by the weather of South Central Vietnam, with the dry season lasting more than 6 months. Therefore, taking advantage of the rain to plant trees is extremely important. We always proactively plant early and follow the correct procedures so that the trees have time to take root and grow healthily, thus having good resistance during the dry season and minimizing tree deaths due to drought,” Mr. Thuong said.

According to Mr. Thuong, to ensure the effectiveness of reforestation efforts, the Nui Le Sub-station annually develops a forestry operational plan, closely adhering to the targets set by the Xuan Loc Protective Forest Management Board. The specialized forest protection force also guides local people in selecting tree species suitable for the soil conditions, ensuring optimal tree growth. Thanks to this close cooperation, the people are increasingly supportive and actively participate in planting and caring for the forest, thereby enriching the protective forest ecosystem.

Deputy Director of the Xuan Loc Protective Forest Management Board, To The Manh, added: "The unit is very interested in and actively implements reforestation right from the beginning of the rainy season. Especially on May 19th (President Ho Chi Minh's birthday), the unit organized a ceremony to launch the reforestation campaign, then implemented a synchronized plan to each sub-unit to ensure successful implementation. By 2025, to date, we have planted 16.35 hectares of replacement forest (achieving 100% of the plan); planted 20,000 scattered trees (achieving 100% of the plan); planted over 22,400 trees to improve the quality of protective forests (achieving 89% of the plan); and replanted 545.34 hectares of production forest after harvesting (achieving 85% of the plan). Currently, the unit is striving to complete the remaining reforestation targets as soon as possible."

For a Green Vietnam

Not only at the Xuan Loc Protective Forest Management Board, but also at the Tan Phu Protective Forest Management Board, reforestation efforts have been implemented urgently and promptly. To date, the reforestation results are in line with the planned targets.

According to Nguyen Le Anh Tuan, Director of the Tan Phu Protective Forest Management Board: "Based on the sustainable forest management plan, logging always goes hand in hand with replanting. After each logging season, the unit organizes replanting immediately in the next season to avoid barren land and ensure the green cover of the forest."

“In 2025, the Tan Phu Protective Forest Management Board completed the plan to replant 15 hectares of production forest with hybrid acacia trees – a species suitable for the soil and bringing high economic value. The trees are currently developing very well, showing the effectiveness of arranging the planting season appropriately and applying the correct silvicultural techniques,” Mr. Tuan shared.

According to the latest statistics, Dong Nai province currently has over 370,000 hectares of forest. Of this, over 179,500 hectares are natural forest; over 142,400 hectares are planted forest; and over 48,000 hectares are non-forested land. The forest cover rate is 25.28%. These figures demonstrate the significant efforts of all levels of government, sectors, and the community in protecting and developing forests. However, to achieve sustainable development goals, reforestation needs to continue to be considered a regular and long-term task.

According to Nguyen Viet Long, Head of the Forest Development Department of the Dong Nai Provincial Forest Protection Department: During the 2021-2025 period, Dong Nai province has implemented numerous tree planting programs with the coordinated participation of all levels and sectors, and strong support from the people and businesses. Accordingly, the Department of Agriculture and Environment annually issues directives and implements tree planting plans in localities and units; it also widely disseminates information about the significance of tree planting with the message "For a Green Vietnam". The Department has launched the "Tree Planting Festival in Eternal Gratitude to President Ho Chi Minh" on May 19th every year; and simultaneously reviews land resources and mobilizes funds for reforestation. In addition, the Department invites political organizations, associations, industrial park management units, infrastructure companies, and businesses to participate and contribute trees to the community.

Thanks to the synchronized implementation of various solutions, reforestation efforts have yielded many positive results. In particular, Dong Nai is one of the localities that has successfully implemented the "Planting 1 Billion Trees" program as directed by the Prime Minister. To date, the province has planted 20 million trees of various types (12 million forestry trees and 8 million other trees such as fruit trees and industrial crops), exceeding the target set by the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment by 176%.

With synchronized implementation, the joint efforts of the entire political system, and the enthusiastic participation of the people, reforestation efforts in Dong Nai are becoming increasingly effective. The rainy season is the "season for sowing green," an opportunity to affirm the province's determination to protect the environment, respond to climate change, and build a sustainably developed Dong Nai.
