Mourinho's record low salary

Returning to Benfica after 25 years, Jose Mourinho accepted the most modest salary of his coaching career since leaving Portugal.

Benfica appointed Mourinho just three weeks after he was fired by Fenerbahce at the end of August. Sharing with CNN , Benfica President Rui Costa refused to reveal specific figures, but admitted that Mourinho's income was only equal to or lower than his predecessor Roger Schmidt.

According to British media, the "Special One"'s two-year contract is worth around £6 million. Rui Costa stressed: "This is Mourinho's lowest salary since leaving Portugal. It was his desire to return to Benfica that convinced us that he was the ideal choice."
