According to Reuters on the evening of July 30 (US time), US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick confirmed that the US had reached trade agreements with Cambodia and Thailand, just two days before the August 1 deadline when US President Donald Trump was expected to impose new tariffs on countries that failed to reach bilateral agreements.

This agreement comes just days after the two Southeast Asian nations agreed to a ceasefire following international calls, including those from President Trump.

This information was provided by Mr. Lutnick in an interview with Fox News host Sean Hannity.

While not disclosing specific details of the agreements, Lutnick emphasized President Trump's proactive role in the negotiations.

"He used trade as a tool. I listened all day Saturday (July 26) as Mr. Trump directly called Cambodia and Thailand. By Monday (July 28), both sides announced a ceasefire, and today we reached an agreement," Lutnick said.

Previously, according to the Bangkok Post , Trump had used trade negotiations as leverage to force the two countries to the negotiating table, warning that Washington would not sign a trade agreement with either side if the conflict continued.

After the peace agreement was signed, Trump called the leaders of both countries and instructed the trade negotiating team to resume talks.

Details regarding the content of the agreements with Cambodia and Thailand are not yet available.

On the same day, the US also announced that it had reached an agreement with South Korea, imposing a 15% tariff on imports from that country.

In addition, Trump announced he would impose a 25% tariff on Indian goods starting August 1st, and threatened further sanctions for India's energy purchases from Russia.

According to Politico , President Trump is expected to sign more executive orders on July 31 (US time), imposing higher tariffs on several countries that have not reached a trade agreement with the US.
