South Africa: Mystery surrounding the disappearance of a British tourist at Ghost Mountain.

After more than four months of searching for Lorna McSorley in the sacred Ghost Mountains, private detectives are now focusing their investigation on a hypothesis related to a brutal local ritual.

The incident occurred at noon on September 27, 2025, when Lorna McSorley (71 years old) and her husband, Leon Probert (81 years old), arrived at the Ghost Mountain Inn resort in South Africa. The British couple were on an all-inclusive holiday organized by TUI. However, just five days after arriving, Lorna disappeared without a trace, except for a crumpled map that was later found.

The final journey in the sacred mountains.

Security cameras captured the last images of Lorna and her husband at 2:30 PM on that fateful day at the hotel reception. They were studying an A4-sized map, marking their destination as a lake area with a crocodile warning sign. Feeling tired, Leon decided to return to their room to rest, while Lorna continued her journey alone to observe the wildlife.

The last witness to see her was Koos Prinsloo, a local farmer. He said he met her at 3:15 PM when she stopped to ask for directions. Although Prinsloo warned her that she had strayed quite far off course and offered to drive her back, the tourist calmly refused. At 5:30 PM, when his wife did not return, Leon panicked and reported it to the authorities.

Digital traces and the muti ritual hypothesis.

After the police narrowed down the search area, a team of private detectives took over the case and discovered several anomalies through online data. Within a 50-meter radius of where the map was found, three phone numbers appeared simultaneously around 4:45 PM and lingered for 15 minutes before splitting off in different directions.

Notably, one of these phone numbers had a profile picture of a big cat – a symbol often seen in "muti" rituals. This is a local term for traditional medicines. According to Zulu cultural expert Jacob Sabelo Ntshangase, some extremist healers believe that human body parts can bring power and wealth.

Safety warning for tourists.

The area around Ghost Mountain is considered sacred but also harbors many risks. A local official in the town of Mkuze revealed that at least 10 disappearances have been recorded since 2022. Experts advise tourists to absolutely avoid separating from their groups or walking alone in deserted areas, especially without a knowledgeable local guide.

Currently, search efforts are ongoing, but hopes of finding Lorna alive are dwindling. Her bank card has not had any transactions since she disappeared, further increasing concerns among her family and authorities about the worst-case scenario.
