Improving the quality of OCOP products.

Over the years, localities, agencies, and businesses in the province have focused on developing scientific programs to support the development of OCOP products. Specifically in 2024, the Department of Science and Technology advised on the implementation of the scientific and technological tasks "Building, managing, and developing the collective trademark 'Mong Cai Sweet Potato' for sweet potato products of Mong Cai City, Quang Ninh Province" and "Building, managing, and developing the collective trademark 'Ha Long Shrimp Paste' for shrimp paste products of Ha Long City, Quang Ninh Province".

At the same time, the department is implementing six tasks under the intellectual property development program, such as: building, managing, and developing the Hai Ha bearded chicken certification mark; building, managing, and developing geographical indications for cinnamon products of Dam Ha district; building, managing, and developing the Binh Lieu star anise certification mark…

Several sectors have supported numerous projects within the scope of the Program to support the application and transfer of scientific and technological advancements to promote socio-economic development in rural, mountainous, and ethnic minority areas, such as: the project on applying science and technology to build a model for the production and commercial farming of blood cockles (Anadara granosa Linaeus, 1758) in Mong Cai City, led by Ngoc Khanh VT Co., Ltd.; the project on applying science and technology to build a model for the production of oyster spat and commercial farming of Pacific oysters (Crassosưea gigas) in Quang Ninh province, led by Minh Han Aquatic Products Co., Ltd., etc.

The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development continues to maintain, operate, supplement, and update information in the database system for tracing the origin of safe agricultural, forestry, and aquatic products in the province. To date, it has supported the issuance of 1,332 operating accounts to establishments participating in the database system for tracing the origin of safe agricultural, forestry, and aquatic products; and issued 2,489 QR codes for agricultural and aquatic products participating in the system…

In addition, localities have focused on developing safe raw material areas to serve the development of OCOP products. The entire province now has 63 planting areas granted planting area codes for domestic consumption and export, and 9 packaging facilities. Localities continue to maintain safe production with 322.35 hectares of VietGAP-certified cultivated land (27 facilities); 1 aquaculture facility (Russian sturgeon, catfish) certified VietGAP, covering 0.405 hectares; 1 organic farming facility with 329 hectares of cinnamon; 2 VietGAP-certified livestock farms; and 39 livestock households granted VietGAP certificates and other equivalent certifications…

The province currently has 694 establishments for preliminary processing of agricultural, forestry, and aquatic products under the management of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, including 430 establishments dealing with agricultural and aquatic products. Most of these establishments have independently developed and implemented advanced quality management programs based on Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) standards, Standard Operating Procedures (SSOP), Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP), etc.

In addition, to support the improvement of OCOP product quality, Quang Ninh also strengthens food safety management. Departments, agencies, market management forces, and local authorities are implementing a comprehensive set of solutions to combat smuggling, trade fraud, counterfeit goods, control the origin of agricultural, forestry, and aquatic products at markets and supermarkets, and prevent the risk of infectious diseases entering the province.

On the other hand, the province continues to invite and attract businesses to invest in agriculture and rural areas; significantly reduce barriers to business conditions in agriculture, creating attractiveness for businesses to invest; organize fairs and exhibitions and support cooperatives and businesses to participate in introducing and promoting safe agricultural products, especially products in the OCOP program… In 2024 alone, the province organized 3 provincial-level OCOP fairs and 1 regional-level fair; guided localities to register to participate in many fairs, exhibitions, and product introductions of OCOP products organized by other provinces and cities.

Through the implementation of solutions, the recognition and reputation of OCOP products have been enhanced, helping to certify the quality characteristics of OCOP products linked to their origin, increasing product value to meet the increasingly high demands of consumers regarding quality, design, and packaging; bringing socio-economic benefits to the locality and people. Most of the products that have been awarded stars continue to develop, upgrade, and maintain food safety and quality standards.
