Beyond its role in preserving historical values and serving research purposes, the Management Board of the Binh Thuan Provincial Party Committee Base during the anti-American war is gradually becoming a place for learning, propaganda, and education , as well as an attractive tourist destination.
Traveling from Phan Thiet City up to the Binh Thuan Provincial Party Committee Base during the anti-American war, located in Dong Giang commune, Ham Thuan Bac district, about 65 km away, everyone in the tour group shared a peaceful feeling of a fresh weekend morning as soon as they stepped off the bus. Amidst the spacious area of over 10 hectares, the intertwined tree canopies provided shade, making every corner feel pleasant. Perhaps this is why the number of visitors to the site for study, research, and experience continued to increase in 2024. According to the Management Board of the site, they welcomed 215 groups with over 17,000 visitors that year (reaching 171% of the target). Besides students, trainees, and youth union members from within the province, there were also tourism companies from Ho Chi Minh City, Ba Ria - Vung Tau, Binh Duong, Tay Ninh, and Lam Dong provinces…
Mr. Vo Cap, Head of the Management Board of the Binh Thuan Provincial Party Committee Base during the anti-American resistance war, said: The team of tour guides and staff at the historical site always strive to constantly learn, improve their knowledge and innovative methods so that visitors can experience a variety of things. Specifically, in 2024, the historical site changed and supplemented the images and artifacts on display, reinforced the display area at the Memorial House - Exhibition Center. At the same time, they collected 20 more artifacts of cadres and soldiers of the Binh Thuan Provincial Party Committee during the anti-American resistance war. These are artifacts closely associated with the daily life and spirit of cadres and soldiers on the battlefield, such as the radio and Selko clock of Comrade Le Ngoc Lien (Nghi Duc commune, Tanh Linh district), who was a security guard of the Binh Thuan Provincial Party Committee during the anti-American resistance war, 1961-1975; The parachute hammock, water canteen, US-made cup, and stainless steel spoon belonged to Ms. Huynh Thi Xuan Hanh, who worked at the Binh Thuan Provincial Party Committee Office from 1968-1975; the American razor was a war trophy that Mr. Le Van Lieu obtained during the 1972 anti-raid battle at Bien Lac Lake - Tanh Linh…
In addition, the management board has collected two stories: one about martyr Vo Dan - former Secretary of the Binh Thuan Provincial Party Committee who sacrificed his life in the resistance war against the US - and another about the period of hardship after 1970, to be used in the guided tours.
To meet the demand for information and explanations of historical sites, the Management Board has researched documents and compiled comprehensive and detailed introductory articles about the exhibits to create QR codes. Automated narration is implemented at the Exhibition House, the shelters, the camps of the Party Secretary, Deputy Party Secretary, Chief of Office, Hoang Cam Kitchen, and the meeting hall at appropriate times. Simultaneously, a Google Business address for the Provincial Party Committee Base Area has been created, and touch screens displaying photographic materials have been installed to facilitate visitor access.
According to Mr. Vo Cap, the project to invest in several items serving the activities of the Management Board of the Binh Thuan Provincial Party Committee's Base during the anti-American resistance war has been submitted to the Department of Planning and Investment and is currently seeking opinions from relevant departments, agencies, and localities. This includes the construction of a new single-phase medium-voltage power line and transformer station from Dong Giang commune to the historical site, as well as some auxiliary items and the installation of equipment at the site such as movable protective fences, guard houses, an automatic audio guide system, surveillance cameras, electric shuttle vehicles, etc., with a total investment of over 27 billion VND. The project is expected to be implemented in 2024 and 2025. Upon completion, the project will facilitate the management board's operations and the movement and interaction of tourists.
Given the cultural and historical significance of the Binh Thuan Provincial Party Committee Base during the resistance war against the US, the province and the Management Board of the site are continuing to promote, publicize, and invest in restoration with the hope that the site will become an attractive historical tourism destination for visitors from within and outside the province.
