Nani is shining at the age of 39. |
The former Manchester United star was scheduled to retire in December 2024 after a stint with Amadora in Portugal. However, the allure of top-level football led him to change his mind, signing with Aktobe FC of Kazakhstan in January of this year.
In the Kazakhstan Cup match on April 30th, Nani shone brightly, scoring both goals to help Aktobe come from behind to defeat Yelimay 2-1. In the 59th minute, he opened the scoring with a shot that hit the post and went into the net, before sealing the victory with a beautiful curling shot.
These were Nani's first goals since 2023, and they also earned him the Man of the Match award. Last month, Nani made his return to the pitch with an assist in a resounding 4-1 victory against FC Tobol in the opening match of the Kazakhstan Premier League.
During his eight years at Old Trafford, the Portuguese winger scored 40 goals in 230 appearances, helping the Red Devils win one Champions League, four Premier League titles, two League Cups, and one FIFA Club World Cup. After leaving the club in 2015 to join Fenerbahce, he went on to play in various leagues in Spain, Italy, the United States, and Australia.
Currently, Nani is the highest-paid player in the history of Kazakhstan football. Speaking after the match, he said: "Scoring a goal always feels special, but what makes me happiest is helping the team achieve its goals."
