Foundation for developing Dong Nai literature and arts

After the administrative boundary merger (Binh Phuoc and Dong Nai), Dong Nai literature and arts not only increased sharply in the number of members in various fields, but also expanded creative space for artists.

The convergence of a large and talented group of writers and artists is opening up new opportunities for the province's artists and writers to interact and learn from each other, creating a favorable foundation for the comprehensive, modern, and more accessible development of Dong Nai's arts and culture.

Expanding the creative space

“Previously, I participated in many writing camps in Dong Nai as well as in provinces and cities in the North, Central, and West of Vietnam… However, after the merger, I will have the opportunity to work together in one cultural and artistic space with artists from the former Binh Phuoc . It must be said that this is a larger, deeper ‘playground’ with new energy and inspiration. I will have more opportunities to access new materials in my poetry,” shared poet Minh Ha.

Beyond simply connecting and fostering personal interaction among artists, Dong Nai's cultural and artistic activities are becoming a collective effort, where writers, painters, photographers, musicians, and others collaborate, exploring themes from diverse perspectives. Today, Dong Nai is not only notable for its large industrial zones, Long Thanh Airport, abundant fruit orchards, and historical sites and scenic spots, but also for its more than 200km of border, and its diverse ethnic and religious groups, which have become invaluable "living material" for the province's artists.

According to Pham Hien, Vice Chairman of the Dong Nai Provincial Association of Literature and Arts, before the merger, the Associations of Literature and Arts of the two provinces had held meetings and exchanged information on the tasks and activities of each unit. The former Binh Phuoc Association of Literature and Arts had 300 members, operating in 9 specialized fields. After the merger, the association plans to organize joint activities to give Dong Nai artists and writers the opportunity to interact, participate in field trips for creative work, and develop new themes.

“We believe that, with a large and dynamic membership, Dong Nai's arts and culture activities will continue to develop strongly, opening up more opportunities for creative work. For example, in the past, members from the former Binh Phuoc province had limited access to the lands and people of the former Dong Nai province; conversely, many authors from the former Dong Nai province had not yet deeply explored themes related to the border, border guard posts, ethnic minority areas, or key agricultural zones in Binh Phuoc. These thematic areas are a valuable source of inspiration, promising to create many high-quality works,” Mr. Hien said.

The cultural and artistic space in Dong Nai is expanding both in scope and depth, and its potential is very rich. This will contribute to creating conditions for exhibitions, exchanges, performances, and art shows to be organized flexibly according to the region and the characteristics of each residential area. Many works are not limited to the stage, exhibitions, or printed books, but are gradually appearing on digital platforms, social media, and local television channels. This is an important prerequisite for bringing culture and art closer to the community, especially in localities that previously had limited access to professional art.

Creating momentum to promote the development of literature and art.

The new foundation following the merger is opening up a period of promising development for the arts and culture of Dong Nai. However, to take advantage of this opportunity, in addition to the dynamism of the artists and writers, the Dong Nai Association of Arts and Culture has been promoting professional activities and implementing practical support policies for creative forces, especially young authors and works of high artistic value.

According to Pham Van Hoang, Vice Chairman of the Dong Nai Provincial Association of Literature and Arts, the association has paid special attention to young writers in recent times. Many writing camps, professional skills training courses, and competitions for young authors have been organized to discover and introduce promising talents, creating opportunities for them to test their skills in a professional environment, shape their creative style, and pursue themes with social depth.

According to Pham Van Hoang, Vice Chairman of the Dong Nai Literature and Arts Association, after the merger, the association has nearly 600 members, operating in various fields: literature, music, fine arts, photography, theater, folk arts, etc. Previously, the old Dong Nai Literature and Arts Association had 7 specialized branches, and the old Binh Phuoc Association had 9. After the merger, the association now has nearly 12 specialized branches. This strong force of artists and writers promises to create a new face for the province's literature and arts scene.

Mr. Hoang emphasized: "This coming August, the association will organize a field trip for young authors from specialized departments in Binh Phuoc (formerly) and Binh Thuan (now Lam Dong province). Creating opportunities for young people to confidently and systematically enter the world of arts and culture not only helps them shape their writing style but also contributes to building a strong successor generation for Dong Nai's arts and culture in the future."

Along with expanding creative spaces and nurturing the next generation, the Dong Nai Association of Literature and Arts is focusing on improving the quality of works, widely introducing them to all segments of the population, and expanding cooperative relationships and exchanges with other literary and artistic associations in the region and across the country. Through this, it creates more opportunities to promote and spread the image, people, and culture of Dong Nai to domestic and international audiences.
