Meo Vac is one of the four districts located in the Rocky Plateau region, famous not only for its majestic natural landscapes but also for being a place where unique cultural values ​​of ethnic minorities, including the Lo Lo people, converge. In order to preserve, protect, and promote the beautiful traditional culture of the Lo Lo people, and thereby create attractive tourism products to attract visitors, Meo Vac district has implemented many comprehensive solutions.

The Lo Lo ethnic group in Meo Vac district currently comprises over 230 households with more than 1,000 people, mainly residing in Meo Vac town and Xin Cai and Thuong Phung communes. They are also one of the 14 ethnic minority groups with a population of less than 10,000 in Vietnam. Despite their small number, the Lo Lo people here possess a unique, rich, and diverse cultural heritage, contributing significantly to the colorful cultural landscape of the Stone Plateau.

One of the distinctive features of the Lolo people is their colorful and meaningful traditional clothing, easily distinguishable from that of other ethnic groups. Lolo women typically wear skirts, jackets, headscarves, and silver jewelry. The patterns on their clothing are meticulously hand-embroidered, often inspired by nature and the universe, reflecting their life philosophy and beliefs. Each pattern and color carries its own meaning, reflecting the skill and artistic soul of Lolo women.

In terms of beliefs and customs, the Lo Lo people in Meo Vac have a rich religious life, with many traditional rituals associated with the agricultural production cycle and spiritual life. Particularly noteworthy is the Forest God Worship Ceremony – an important ritual expressing gratitude to nature and praying for favorable weather. The ancestor worship ceremony is also a distinctive custom, held on special occasions to commemorate their origins. The Lo Lo people consider their ancestors as protective deities who bring good fortune and peace to their descendants.

Furthermore, the cultural beauty of the Lo Lo people in Meo Vac is also reflected in other aspects such as: the art of brocade weaving and embroidery, traditional houses and architecture, cuisine, and community solidarity. In particular, the art of brocade weaving and embroidery makes a strong impression on tourists. Through their skillful hands, they create many unique products such as trousers, shirts, scarves, bags, skirts, and hats. These products are not only everyday items but also cultural symbols; the patterns decorated on these products are considered a unique language, conveying stories about their lives, customs, and worldview.

According to Ngo Manh Cuong, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Meo Vac District: Recognizing the importance of preserving the traditional cultural values ​​of the Lo Lo ethnic group in the socio-economic development of the locality, in recent years, the district has focused on directing the implementation of many solutions, including emphasizing the integration of traditional culture into school curricula; maintaining and improving the quality of the Lo Lo ethnic community tourism village in Meo Vac town; promoting and encouraging Lo Lo households to preserve traditional customs, practices, and festivals; organizing the Lo Lo Ethnic Culture Festival annually; and strengthening the activities of the Lo Lo ethnic brocade embroidery cooperative...

Recently, Meo Vac district successfully organized the 2024 Lo Lo Ethnic Culture Festival. This is an annual cultural event and an effective solution that the district focuses on maintaining to preserve and promote the traditional cultural values ​​of the Lo Lo people, while also serving as a bridge to promote local tourism. The festival included many unique and attractive activities such as: reenacting the rain-praying ceremony and the village cleansing ceremony of the Lo Lo people; folk art performances; traditional sports competitions; enjoying local cuisine; visiting stalls displaying handicrafts, etc.

According to Ngo Manh Cuong, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Meo Vac District: The cultural beauty of the Lo Lo ethnic group is not only a valuable asset but also a great potential to attract tourists to the locality. Therefore, based on the existing beauty and traditional cultural values ​​of the Lo Lo ethnic group, in the coming time, the district will continue to implement comprehensive solutions to preserve and promote the cultural values ​​of the Lo Lo people. This will not only contribute to preserving cultural identity but also promote the development of the local tourism industry, create more jobs and increase income for the people.
