Changing the mindset in production
The road leading to Lung Thien village today is covered in the lush green of pine, cinnamon, and acacia forests stretching across the mountain slopes. Amidst this green landscape stands the spacious wooden stilt house of Mr. Ly Sao Son, born in 1971, a Dao ethnic minority member and exemplary Party member in labor and production.

Few people know that his family used to be extremely poor, relying year-round on a few corn and cassava fields. Troubled by persistent poverty, Mr. Son always believed that Party members must lead the way for the people to trust and follow. Imbued with President Ho Chi Minh's teaching, "For the benefit of ten years, we must plant trees," he boldly shifted his focus to developing a forest-based economy. From a small initial area, his family now owns over 8 hectares of pine, cinnamon, acacia, and eucalyptus forests; and has leased an additional 3 hectares to expand the area for planting cinnamon and eucalyptus. In 2025 alone, his family harvested 4 hectares of pine forest, earning nearly 1 billion VND. After harvesting, he continues to replant to maintain a long-term income source.
Besides focusing on developing his family's economy, Mr. Son is also willing to share his experience, provide seedlings, and offer labor to many households in the village. Mr. Ly Trieu Ngoc, from Lung Thien village, said that thanks to Mr. Son's guidance on forest planting and livestock farming, and his material assistance, his family escaped poverty in 2025.
In Tan Son village, Ms. Phan Thi Mai, born in 1983, of the Dao ethnic group, is the head of the village's Women's Association and an active Party member in developing the local economy. Recognizing the favorable natural conditions for livestock farming, in 2023 she boldly invested in raising porcupines, a relatively new model in the area. Starting with 4 breeding porcupines, her family's herd has now grown to 12 marketable animals, selling for approximately 12 million VND each. Not stopping there, in early 2026, she continued to invest in raising over 150 commercial chickens; renovated 3 fish ponds with an area of over 3,000 m2 to raise grass carp, common carp, and silver carp. In addition, she maintains a breeding pig farm with 4-6 pigs. Each year, the sale of fish, pigs, porcupines, and chickens brings her family an income of over 100 million VND.
What is commendable is that, drawing from her model, Ms. Phan Thi Mai actively encouraged female members to change their production mindset, renovate neglected gardens, and develop commercial livestock farming. Many members who previously only engaged in small-scale production have now boldly invested in economic development, gradually increasing their income.
Spreading the spirit of setting a good example.
In recent years, Minh Tan commune has identified promoting the exemplary role of cadres and Party members in economic development as one of the important solutions for sustainable poverty reduction.
According to Comrade Ly Nam Thuy, Secretary of the Minh Tan Commune Party Committee, the commune Party committee regularly organizes visits and study tours for cadres and Party members to learn from effective economic models; and encourages Party members to boldly transform the structure of crops and livestock to suit the actual conditions of each village. Party members must be pioneers, daring to take the lead so that the people trust, learn from, and follow them.
Based on that orientation, many economic models led by Party members have been formed and have proven effective, such as economic forestry, commercial cattle farming, porcupine and bamboo rat farming, specialty fish farming, transportation service development, and integrated agricultural production… To date, the entire commune has over 30 exemplary economic models led by Party members.
In reality, thanks to the pioneering efforts of Party members, the economic development movement in Minh Tan is undergoing many positive changes. Many households that previously relied on government support are now proactively borrowing capital, learning new techniques, and boldly investing in economic development. Currently, the entire commune maintains a total cultivated area of nearly 900 hectares, with a total food production of over 4,000 tons; a total livestock and poultry population of nearly 35,000 animals; and a forest cover rate of over 64%. Many programs supporting production development, garden improvement, and forest economic development continue to be implemented, creating conditions for people to expand their economic models. By the end of 2025, the poverty rate in the entire commune is expected to decrease to 39.9%; and the average per capita income will reach 30 million VND/person/year.
In Minh Tan commune, studying and following President Ho Chi Minh's teachings is no longer just a set of general slogans, but is being concretized through practical actions in labor and production, economic development, and mutual assistance in sustainable poverty reduction. Thanks to the exemplary spirit of the Party members, the border region of Minh Tan is flourishing day by day, opening up hope for a prosperous life in this border area.
