The 34-year-old star shared on Santos TV that his journey back to the national team was grueling both physically and mentally. Neymar suffered a serious injury in October 2023 and underwent a lengthy recovery process before regaining his form with Santos.
"When my name was called, I knew all the effort had been worthwhile. I cried for hours. Getting here wasn't easy," Neymar said emotionally.
Returning to Santos is seen as a turning point that helped Neymar revive his career. The Brazilian striker said that the atmosphere at his hometown club helped him overcome the most difficult period.
"I always say I feel at home when I return to Santos. It's hard to describe that feeling. I want to thank everyone, from my teammates and coaching staff to the healthcare, nutrition, and security personnel for the team," Neymar added.
Despite being an icon of Brazilian football, Neymar understands that he is not guaranteed a starting spot under Carlo Ancelotti. The Italian coach insists that every position must be fairly contested before the World Cup.
However, Neymar remains optimistic. He calls on the entire team to unite in order to achieve Brazil's sixth World Cup title. The yellow and green team is in Group C along with Morocco, Haiti, and Scotland.
