(VTC News) - After more than 13 years since its inauguration, the Rung Sac - Can Gio road has not only boosted socio -economic development but has also become an unmissable tourist destination.

Located approximately 50km from the center of Ho Chi Minh City, Can Gio District is the only area with a coastline. Besides its strategically important location contributing to socio-economic development, Can Gio also attracts tourists with its picturesque forest roads.

In January 2021, the Sac - Can Gio road was inaugurated after nearly 10 years of construction with a total investment of over 1,500 billion VND.

According to residents of Can Gio, before the year 2000, this area only had narrow roads and was divided by many rivers and canals, making travel difficult for people.

According to VTC News reporters, when visiting Can Gio district, tourists only have one option: traveling from the mainland to Binh Khanh ferry (Nha Be district) and then driving along Rung Sac road. The Binh Khanh ferry operates from 5 am to 8 pm, with departures every 15 minutes.

The Rừng Sác Road is 36.5km long and 30m wide, with 6 lanes. The starting point of the road is adjacent to the Bình Khánh ferry terminal, while the end point intersects with the 30/4 road (Long Hòa district, Cần Giờ) leading towards the East Sea.

On the Rung Sac - Can Gio route, 8 new bridges have been built with a total investment cost of over 500 billion VND.

Along the Rừng Sác forest route, visitors will experience traversing lush green forests, enjoying the fresh air and diverse plant life. A delightful experience while traveling along this unique route is that visitors will often spot monkeys climbing among the trees along the way.

When visiting Can Gio island district, tourists can also choose to experience the bus service. Currently, there are 5 bus routes in the area, with approximately 350 trips per day and an average passenger volume of 5,400 per day.

With its strategically important location, Can Gio district is currently being planned for many key projects such as the Can Gio Bridge (replacing the Binh Khanh ferry) and, especially, the Can Gio International Transshipment Port.

In July 2024, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport submitted to the City People's Committee a series of key transportation projects and works prioritized for implementation in the 2024-2030 period, including the project to upgrade and expand Rung Sac Road and build eight bridges along the route with a total estimated investment of 3,850 billion VND. According to a representative of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport, prioritizing investment in roads and bridges on Rung Sac Road is to serve the future Can Gio International Transshipment Port and the plan to develop the transportation network of Can Gio district from now until 2030.
