Despite facing numerous challenges due to rising input material prices and a declining consumer market, the efforts of the businesses themselves and the solutions implemented by the central and provincial governments to overcome difficulties and obstacles have created momentum for the recovery and acceleration of the construction materials industry in the last months of the year.
Brick production at Phu Thinh Brick Factory.
Phu Thinh Brick Factory (Ha Thanh Investment Corporation), located in Vinh Thinh commune (Vinh Loc district), is a company specializing in the production of high-quality tunnel kiln bricks for civil construction projects. According to Nguyen Trung Kien, General Director of Ha Thanh Investment Corporation, the factory produces over 30 million bricks annually, primarily serving customers in Vinh Loc, Ha Trung districts, and Thanh Hoa City.
To ensure that all bricks produced are sold, in addition to investing in production lines, innovating technology, and improving product quality and design, the company has also built a customer service team. As a result, brick production from the beginning of 2024 to date has increased by 3-5% compared to the same period in 2023. According to Mr. Kien, from October onwards, which is the construction season, product consumption is expected to grow by 5-10%. Therefore, the company has developed a production plan that meets consumer demand while maintaining and ensuring employment for 70 workers with an income of 8-15 million VND per person per month.
Thien Phu Son Co., Ltd., located in Cao Thinh commune (Ngoc Lac district), specializes in the exploitation and processing of ornamental stone and construction materials for transportation and civil construction projects. According to the company's director, Le Thi Viet, the unit supplies approximately 15,000-17,000 cubic meters of construction materials to the domestic market annually. However, since the beginning of 2024, the amount supplied to the market has only reached 6,000-7,000 cubic meters, a decrease of 10-15% compared to the same period in 2023. While the overall decrease is compared to the same period last year, Ms. Viet believes that the construction materials market is showing optimistic signs. In recent months, the market has gradually recovered, leading to significant growth in product consumption. In August 2024, the supply of items such as ornamental stone, paving stone, and stone for construction of transportation projects increased by 15% compared to the previous month. At this rate, it is entirely possible to supply 15,000-17,000 cubic meters of construction stone to the market by the end of 2024.
Thanh Hoa currently has over 500 businesses operating in the construction materials manufacturing sector, categorized into 12 industry groups such as cement, ceramic tiles, non-fired bricks, quarrying, and stone processing. To cope with the current difficulties, businesses are forced to flexibly find solutions such as reducing production capacity, cutting labor, seeking new markets, and being flexible in product consumption. In addition, the province has sent a document to relevant localities and units within the province requesting attention and assistance in resolving difficulties and obstacles for construction material manufacturing businesses, including the use of products in construction projects funded by the state budget. Furthermore, the Government has issued numerous policies on finance and banking (corporate bonds, policy interest rates, lending conditions, etc.), and solutions to remove obstacles and promote the development of the real estate market. Most recently, on August 26, 2024, the Government issued Directive No. 28/CT-TTg "On some solutions to remove difficulties and obstacles, promote the production and consumption of cement, iron and steel and construction materials"... This has helped the construction materials market show signs of improvement in recent months.
According to statistics from the Thanh Hoa Department of Industry and Trade, many construction materials maintained their production growth compared to the same period last year, such as: construction bricks increased by 9.1%, iron and steel increased by 11.2%... Based on these results, along with the efforts of businesses and solutions to overcome difficulties and obstacles from the central and provincial governments, this will be the driving force for the construction materials industry to continue recovering and accelerating in the remaining months of 2024.
