Cement and concrete industry seeks to overcome difficulties

Báo Công thươngBáo Công thương22/11/2023

The sluggish real estate market, combined with rising production costs and requirements for sustainable development, have greatly affected the consumption and business of the cement industry.

According to Dr. Tran Ba Viet - Vice President of Vietnam Concrete Association, Vietnam currently produces and consumes about 140 million m3 of concrete and 60 million tons of cement each year. In the future, domestic demand will be 100 million tons of cement/year, with a corresponding concrete volume of about 250 million m3/year.

Although it is considered an industry with great development potential, according to Dr. Tran Ba Viet, the cement and concrete industry is facing many difficulties and challenges due to the frozen real estate and the decline in public investment, causing domestic consumption to slow down. Along with that are the requirements for green production, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and aiming for sustainable development. Therefore, in production and business management, in addition to saving and reducing costs, the application of science and technology and the use of waste as alternative fuel in cement production need to be promoted.
