The demands for green production, reduced greenhouse gas emissions, and sustainable development also pose challenges for the cement industry.
Cement production is considered one of the industries with a high emission rate, accounting for up to 75% of emissions in the construction materials sector. In 2024, the real estate market remained sluggish. Along with this, rising production costs and requirements for sustainable development significantly impacted the consumption and business of the cement and concrete industry.
According to Dr. Tran Ba Viet, Vice President of the Vietnam Concrete Association, Vietnam produces and consumes approximately 140 million cubic meters of concrete and 60 million tons of cement annually. In the future, domestic demand will reach 100 million tons of cement per year, with a corresponding volume of approximately 250 million cubic meters of concrete per year.
Although considered a sector with great development potential, according to Mr. Viet, the cement and concrete industry is currently facing many difficulties and challenges due to the frozen real estate market, decreased public investment leading to slower domestic consumption. In addition, the requirements for green production, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and aiming for sustainable development also pose challenges for this industry.

To support cement industry businesses in accessing and applying technology to production, Fireworks Trade Media, in collaboration with the Vietnam Association of Building Materials (VABM), the Vietnam Concrete Association (VCA), and the Vietnam Cement Association (VNCA), will organize the Vietnam Cement and Concrete Machinery, Equipment and Technology Exhibition 2024 in Hanoi from November 13-14, 2024. The exhibition will bring together nearly 100 suppliers showcasing advanced machinery and equipment from leading countries worldwide , including China, Germany, Malaysia, and Vietnam.
According to the organizers, the program provides businesses with direct access to advanced technological solutions to optimize supply chains, minimize operational risks, and improve accuracy in construction processes. Simultaneously, the application of new equipment and machinery helps save energy, reduce CO2 emissions, and meet increasingly stringent environmental protection standards, contributing positively to the trend of using green building materials and moving towards a sustainable, environmentally friendly industry.
Within the framework of the exhibition, numerous international conferences on cement and concrete were held to discuss in-depth trends and challenges in the industry. Key topics included: an overview of the industry and challenges in reducing emissions; the application of cement and concrete in bridge and road construction in areas with weak and saline soils; exploring Industry 4.0, IIoT, and intelligent digitalization through AI-ML; and evaluating the economic and technical efficiency of advanced elevated bridge solutions. All content aimed to help businesses address current difficulties and open up new avenues for the strong development of the cement and concrete industry.
