Product diversification advantage

After more than 7 years of implementing the "One Commune, One Product" (OCOP) program, Da Nang has formed a system of distinctive products associated with local advantages, contributing to rural economic development, creating jobs, and increasing income for people, especially in mountainous areas and traditional craft villages.

Following the merger, the OCOP (One Commune One Product) development space in Da Nang city has expanded and diversified, leveraging the advantages of its plains, mountainous areas, coastal regions, and community tourism. Mr. Nguyen The Hung, Head of the Rural Development Sub-Department (Department of Agriculture and Environment), stated that Da Nang's OCOP products are developing in a direction that expands markets, increases consumption linkages, and enhances value. Many products have entered modern distribution systems, e-commerce platforms, and are aiming for export.

Through trade networking activities, many OCOP (One Commune One Product) businesses have expanded their markets, signed distribution agreements, and accessed export businesses. Many products have been selected as gifts at major events and have penetrated the markets of South Korea, Japan, China, and several Southeast Asian countries. Currently, OCOP products from the city are available in GO!, Co.opMart, Lotte Mart, and Win Mart supermarkets, as well as on e-commerce platforms such as Shopee, Lazada, and TikTok Shop.

However, OCOP (One Commune One Product) consumption still faces challenges due to small-scale production, unstable supply capacity, limited deep-processed products, and uneven access to large markets. In light of this, many businesses propose expanding product ranges, improving quality, and ensuring appropriate pricing to increase competitiveness. Cooperatives are also stepping up promotion, participating in trade fairs, and connecting through distribution channels and e-commerce to expand their reach.

Mr. Huynh Van Ca, Director of Phu My Agricultural Cooperative (Tay Ho commune), said that the cooperative supplies more than 500 tons of vegetables to the market each year, meeting the needs of businesses. The cooperative focuses on stabilizing prices, ensuring product quality and safety. However, access to supermarkets and large distribution channels is still limited, and further support from the distribution system and trade promotion is needed.

The city currently has 473 OCOP products with valid certification, including 4 five-star products, 78 four-star products, and 391 three-star products. All products are labeled with QR codes for traceability; over 90% have quality declaration documents and food safety assurance. Approximately 12 businesses participate in official export channels; more than 200 products are available in supermarkets, modern distribution chains, and e-commerce platforms.

Improving the quality of OCOP products.

As a company recently recognized with a 5-star national OCOP award, Ms. Dang Thi Nhung, Deputy Director of My Phuong Food Co., Ltd., stated that this title motivates the business to maintain quality and improve standards. It also serves as a foundation for expanding the brand, increasing brand recognition, and bringing Vietnamese agricultural products to the international market. The company hopes that the program will help expand its raw material sources, ensure stable input, and develop new product lines from local agricultural produce.

Mr. Chau Ngoc Vinh, Chairman of the Ben Giang Commune People's Committee, said that the locality has many distinctive products such as upland agricultural products, distilled rice wine, free-range chicken, black pigs, Adhir handbags, etc. Many of these products have achieved OCOP 3-star status and have been displayed at fairs inside and outside the city. However, sales remain limited due to a lack of widespread promotion to major markets. The locality hopes that through trade connections, it will expand consumption, increase product value, and create more opportunities for cooperation and stable sales. "If we find a distributor, we commit to supplying quality products, ensuring a stable supply and meeting market standards," Mr. Vinh shared.

According to Vu Thi Bich Hau, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment, in the period 2026-2030, the city aims to develop OCOP (One Commune One Product) in a green and sustainable direction; promote digital transformation, apply science and technology, develop deeply processed products; and link OCOP with culture, tourism, and domestic and international markets.

Through trade connections, cooperatives and OCOP (One Commune One Product) entities have the opportunity to access distribution businesses, export businesses, and trade promotion organizations; while also updating market demands, product standards, expanding cooperation, and enhancing the value of local products.

“Raising the level of OCOP is not just about the number of stars, but more importantly about the value and brand of the products, so that more and more people know about and trust them. In the future, I hope that localities, units, entities, and people will cooperate and work together to make OCOP a unique story of each region, linked to economic development and improving the lives of local people,” Ms. Hau said.

On the morning of May 16th, the Da Nang City Department of Agriculture and Environment organized a business networking conference between OCOP product suppliers and export businesses and trade promotion organizations.
The conference was attended by representatives from departments, agencies, and localities; distribution businesses, export businesses, supermarket chains, e-commerce platforms, trade promotion organizations, along with more than 100 OCOP entities, cooperatives, and production and business establishments in the city.
Previously, in Ban Thach ward, the Department of Agriculture and Environment organized the "Exhibition and Introduction of OCOP Products within the Framework of Trade Connection in Da Nang in 2026," aiming to promote OCOP products, connect consumption, and expand markets for producers in the area.
