Few people know that behind that model lies the arduous journey of Truong Giao Ngo Quan, Secretary of the Youth Union of Hoa Khuong Dong village, a young man with a spirit of daring to think and act, boldly starting a business in his hometown.
The land rewards those who work hard.
Previously, large areas of land in the locality were left fallow due to difficulties in cultivation, lack of irrigation water, and a lack of investment in production. Witnessing this long-term waste of land, Mr. Quan was always concerned about finding more effective ways to utilize it to create livelihoods and increase the value of land use. With the belief that "land does not betray hard work," in January 2026, he boldly mobilized people to lend their land and sought permission from the local government to improve and put it into agricultural production.
However, the journey began with little success. The long-abandoned land had become barren, overgrown with weeds, uneven, and lacked a stable water supply for irrigation. Undeterred, he dedicated time to clearing weeds, improving the soil, and learning watermelon cultivation techniques. "When I first started, many people were worried because abandoned land was very difficult to cultivate. But I thought that with perseverance, improvement, and a willingness to learn the techniques, it would be possible," Quân shared.
To date, he has cultivated nearly 2 hectares of watermelons. Thanks to proper technical care, the watermelon fields are thriving, yielding a total harvest of approximately 45 tons. The watermelons are purchased by traders directly from the field at a price of 4,000 VND/kg. After the harvest, his family earns about 190 million VND.
Spreading the entrepreneurial spirit
Besides directly participating in production, Mr. Quan also regularly researches and learns from effective models both locally and internationally to apply to his own work. From planting and caring for the plants to harvesting, he proactively handles everything himself to accumulate experience and reduce labor costs.

Thanks to his perseverance and eagerness to learn, his watermelon farming model gradually yielded positive results. The watermelons produced a stable yield, with an average weight of 4-8 kg per fruit. More importantly, the model contributed to changing the perceptions of many young people about economic development in their hometown. Many young people in the area are exploring agricultural economic development options instead of choosing to leave their hometown to work elsewhere.
From the sweat of his labor on the fields of his homeland, Quân is writing a beautiful story of perseverance and aspiration. The lush green melon fields today not only provide a stable income for his family but also serve as vivid proof of his daring spirit, contributing to the development of his homeland.
