On the morning of June 23rd, in an exchange with a reporter from the Agriculture and Environment Newspaper, the leader of the Southern Nghe An Protective Forest Management Board confirmed that by 3:30 AM on the same day, a forest fire had broken out in Thien Nhan and Van An communes, formerly part of Nam Dan district.

According to reports, the forest fire was recorded at noon on June 21st in plots 2 and 3, sub-area 1019A, in hamlet 2 of Thien Nhan commune, amidst intensely hot weather and strong winds.
Recognizing that the fire was intensifying and likely to spread to surrounding areas, Nghe An province urgently directed and mobilized specialized forces from the Forest Ranger Stations of Nam Dan - Hung Nguyen; Thanh Chuong; Do Luong, Nghi Loc; Mobile Forest Ranger and Firefighting Teams No. 01, 02, 03; the People's Committee of Thien Nhan commune; the police and military of Van An and Thien Nhan communes; and Fire and Rescue Police Team No. 7 - Fire and Rescue Police Department of the Provincial Police... to participate in extinguishing the fire.

Regarding the serious forest fires in Thien Nhan and Van An communes, on June 22nd, the Nghe An Provincial Party Committee issued Document No. 1296-CV/TU on focusing on controlling forest fires. The Provincial Party Secretary requested the Provincial People's Committee to direct the Provincial Military Command, relevant departments, agencies, functional forces, and localities to concentrate maximum manpower, vehicles, and equipment, and organize firefighting according to the "four on-the-spot" principle, using all means to control and completely extinguish the fire as quickly as possible.
During firefighting operations, absolute safety of life and health of the people and the forces on duty must be ensured; proactive plans must be in place to protect and evacuate people from dangerous areas when necessary; and no loss of life should occur.

Continue to urgently expand firebreaks, clear undergrowth, cordon off fire-affected areas, and strictly control any remaining smoldering spots to prevent fires from reigniting or spreading to neighboring forest areas.
In cases where the fire becomes complex, beyond the control of the local authorities, or requires additional forces and equipment, promptly report to the competent authorities to request support from the Central Government, the 4th Military Region Command, and other functional forces. Absolutely prevent the fire from spreading over a large area, causing serious damage to people, property, and forest resources.
Despite the proactive and decisive involvement of all parties involved, unfavorable weather conditions hampered the response efforts. From noon on June 22nd, authorities began creating firebreaks to limit the risk of further spread. By effectively applying professional measures and combining the utmost efforts of specialized units, the fire has now been brought under control after two days of intense fighting.

Rising temperatures combined with the current state of forest fires place a heavy burden on authorities. Photo: Van Truong.
Preliminary statistics indicate that the area of forest affected by this fire ranges from 17 to 18 hectares, of which 6 hectares are forested (pine and mixed pine-acacia forests), and the rest is barren land. Due to the serious nature of the incident, the authorities of Nghe An province and the local government where the fire occurred have mobilized a large-scale response force, with an estimated total of around 800 people participating.
According to the Southern Nghe An Protective Forest Management Board, although the fire has been basically brought under control, with the current high temperatures and the current "sensitive" forest conditions (pine, acacia, dense undergrowth), the possibility of the fire reigniting cannot be ruled out. Therefore, the unit has assigned specialized personnel to take turns monitoring high-risk areas to proactively respond.
