Quang Xuong sedge weaving

In Quang Xuong district, Thanh Hoa province, there are approximately 550 hectares of land used for growing sedge for mat weaving, concentrated in the communes of Quang Phuc, Quang Truong, Quang Khe, Quang Long, Quang Ngoc, and Quang Van.

Thanks to the application of intensive farming techniques and favorable weather conditions, the sedge plants thrive. The sedge mat weaving craft in Quang Xuong not only brings high profits to producing households but also provides local employment for nearly 5,000 workers, with incomes ranging from 3 to 7 million VND per person per month. Quang Xuong sedge mats are sold in many provinces and cities throughout the country.

The harvested sedge from the fields is brought to a collection point for sorting and drying.

Shake the sedges by hand before bundling them up and taking them to the threshing machine.

Tourists can experience making sedge mats alongside farmers.

After stripping the outer layer, the sedge core is brought back for further processing in preparation for weaving mats.
