The extraordinary willpower of "wooden man" Nguyen Ba Ky

He was almost completely paralyzed, his body stiff as a log except for three fingers on his left hand which could still move. Yet, in the face of such adversity, he did not stop, did not give up, but chose to move forward with unwavering determination.

Through self-learning and entrepreneurship, Mr. Nguyen Ba Ky has experienced a miraculous resurgence, building a multi-million dollar empire and a happy family life that many admire. This man has written extraordinary chapters in his own life.

Life events

Nguyen Ba Ky was born in 1990 in Vinh Loc ward, Nghe An province. Ky's childhood was a peaceful one, like that of many other children. However, at the age of 12, a serious illness struck. Complications from the terrible polyarthritis caused Ky's entire body to gradually stiffen.

The family frantically sold all their possessions to take their son for treatment, from Nghe An to major hospitals in Hanoi . But his condition worsened, and the prolonged casting process caused his joints to fuse together. As a result, Ky's body became permanently stiff like a log. He had to drop out of school when he was only in the 6th grade.

Before the physical pain had subsided, another tragedy struck Kỳ's family. While he was hospitalized, his father suddenly passed away from a heart attack. Fearing that Kỳ would be devastated, his mother and sister kept the bad news a secret. On the day he was discharged from the hospital and returned home, seeing his father's portrait surrounded by incense smoke, Kỳ completely broke down.

Following that incident, Ky fell into a state of mental crisis, becoming withdrawn and sometimes having negative thoughts. Fortunately, his family discovered and prevented it in time. Only when he saw the tears of his frail mother, grieving for her son, did Nguyen Ba Ky truly regain his spirits. His mother constantly encouraged and comforted him, hoping that her son would live the rest of his life well for himself and his family.

It was his mother's poignant words, "If you die, I'll die too. I've lived until now because of you," that awakened Ky, helping him abandon his pessimistic thoughts and cultivate a determination to live a meaningful life.

Knowing his own limitations better than anyone else, Ky chose a job that suited his abilities and health. Although studying information technology wasn't easy, he turned his three left fingers into the most powerful tool for his self-learning journey.

Kỳ taught himself video and image editing software and started earning an income from it. Once he became proficient, he boldly took on additional work designing websites and doing online marketing for several businesses. Not only did he earn money to support himself, but the computer also became a bridge that led Kỳ to the love of his life.

Fairy tales in everyday life

In 2010, while working as an administrator for the "Bridge for People with Disabilities" forum, Ky met Phan Thi Nga (born in 1990, from Ha Tinh province), who was then a university student in Hanoi. Admiring the inspiring stories of the paralyzed young man, Nga initiated a conversation. Their feelings for each other grew over the years.

In 2011, Nga decided to take a bus to Nghe An to meet Ky in person. Seeing the young man, confined to a wheelchair but speaking so eloquently, with such a charming smile and an extraordinary will to live, Nga defied adversity and overcame her family's objections to be with Ky.

In April 2012, a special wedding caused a stir and surprise in the countryside. On their wedding day, the groom was unable to travel by car to pick up his bride and had to rely on his best man to do so. Ky and Nga embraced their happiness amidst the shared joy of their neighbors and disabled friends. The image of the disabled groom, lying in a wheelchair, singing cheerfully beside his beautiful young bride in her wedding dress, brought many in attendance to tears.

The journey of becoming a real estate broker and renting out sound systems from a wheelchair.

Life after the wedding was not easy for the small family. The immense financial pressure, coupled with his wife giving birth, forced Ky to work even harder. At this time, Ky discussed with his wife the possibility of borrowing money and raising capital to open a small convenience store to make a living.

So, every few days, Ky would lie in his wheelchair and travel over ten kilometers to Vinh market to pick up goods. "Many days, it would suddenly rain on the way back, soaking both me and the goods, it was incredibly difficult," Ky recalled.

The family's economic situation took a turn for the better when he received a portion of their assets after selling some land. With his quick wit, Ky made a surprising decision: he invested the money in real estate. Over time, the value of those plots of land increased significantly, multiplying the family's assets considerably. Thanks to this, Ky and his wife were able to buy a large plot of land for over 4 billion VND and build a spacious, modern house worth nearly 2 billion VND.

Besides that, noticing the booming real estate market in his hometown, Ky boldly took up the additional profession of land brokerage. Initially, he helped some acquaintances sell land to earn commissions. Later, thanks to his reputation and the effective application of his existing marketing experience, his real estate listings easily reached many customers. He shared that this flexible job has helped his family's finances become increasingly stable.

In addition, Mr. Ky invested 200 million VND in a professional sound system, which he rents out for events, weddings, and parties. He proudly shared that this work not only helps him fulfill his passion for music but also provides him with a steady income to support his family and children.

Now, after many years of hard work and dedication, Mr. Ky shares that the greatest reward for his family is his three well-behaved and healthy children. Having overcome countless difficulties, this man, who was paralyzed from head to toe, has written a miracle in his own life. Not only is he living well, but he has also earned the admiration of many for the sweet achievements that he and his wife have accomplished after years of tireless effort.

The journey of "wooden man" Nguyen Ba Ky is the most vivid proof of a truth: even when the body is imprisoned, with an indomitable will, people can write miracles. His story is inspiring those who are still struggling in the face of life's adversity.
