In late May 2025, many domestic and foreign tourists visiting Thien Mu Pagoda relic site, gardens, and tourist attractions along both banks of the Perfume River in Huong Long Ward (Phu Xuan District, Hue City) were amazed by the spacious and clean landscape along the roads here.
Few people know that in the past, many roads and alleys in Huong Long ward such as Nguyen Phuc Chu, Phan Trong Tinh, Le Quang Quyen, Nguyen Huu Dat... were narrow, causing difficulties in traveling and posing potential traffic safety risks. Faced with this situation, Huong Long ward authorities coordinated with the ward police and other departments and organizations to carry out propaganda and mobilize people to donate land to open roads.
Ms. Vo Thi Phuoc, Vice Chairwoman of Huong Long Ward People's Committee, said that with the motto "The State and the people work together", the locality has organized meetings with the people, listened to their thoughts and aspirations and clearly explained the benefits of widening the alley so that people can understand. "Thanks to that, many people have voluntarily donated land and contributed money to open roads, build drainage systems, and pave sidewalks. Thanks to the effectiveness of the propaganda work, over the past time, people in the ward have donated more than 1,600 square meters of land; 19 roads and alleys in the ward have been upgraded and expanded," Ms. Vo Thi Phuoc said.
In Huong An ward (Phu Xuan district, Hue city), with the active participation of departments, organizations and the ward police force in propaganda and mobilization work, many households in this locality have also volunteered to donate land for roads, public works and to serve the construction of new rural areas.
Lieutenant Colonel Bach Nu Thanh Huong, Head of Huong An Ward Police, said that the Ward Police have promoted the role of the local security force, "going to every alley, knocking on every door", actively propagating people to participate in models to build the movement of All People Protecting National Security. Thereby integrating propaganda work, mobilizing people to donate land to build bright, clean, beautiful, secure and safe roads. Typically, after being mobilized by the local police and local officials, Mr. Ha Van Quang (in An Luu residential group, Huong An ward) donated more than 50 square meters of residential land and garden land to expand traffic routes.
“After being informed about the project to expand and upgrade the alley road under the “State and people work together” plan, my family registered to donate land. Many households in the alley also volunteered to donate land, so now this road has been widened and straightened. Now cars carrying tourists, trucks carrying materials and fertilizers can go to my family’s vegetable garden and other households very conveniently,” Mr. Quang shared.
And to expand the traffic route, many households along both sides of the alley in Huong An volunteered to demolish walls, fences, gate posts, and porches to donate land, of which the least household donated 20 square meters, the most more than 100 square meters. It is worth mentioning that the current land prices on alleys and lanes in Huong An ward are quite high, but for the purpose of building clean alleys and lanes to serve the travel needs of the people, the households all agreed to donate land.
Speaking with CAND Newspaper reporters, Ms. Nguyen Thi Xuyen, Chairwoman of Huong An Ward People's Committee, shared that from 2024 to now, in the ward, many households have voluntarily registered to donate residential land and garden land to serve the construction of roads and public works. In particular, people in An Luu residential group alone have donated land with a total area of over 3,500m2 along with assets on land, fences, and houses worth about over 1 billion VND.
Similarly, after Hue City had a policy to expand the alley, from mid-2024 until now, the government and organizations in Thuy Bieu Ward, Thuan Hoa District (Hue City) have "gone to every alley" to mobilize households to donate land. Through the mobilization work, more than 100 households voluntarily donated from 5,000 - 6,000m2 of garden land to expand the alley. Of which, Mr. Ho Xuan Ninh's household in Thuy Bieu Ward voluntarily donated 500m2 ; Mr. Hoang Trong Kha (in Dong Phuoc 1 group, Thuy Bieu Ward) donated nearly 200m2 of garden land to expand alley 8 Nguyet Bieu and many other households agreed to donate from 100 to 300m2 of land. Thanks to that, the project to expand Thanh Nghi Street, more than 1km long, with a road surface of 6-8m wide, has been completed, creating favorable conditions for people and vehicles to circulate.
The leader of Hue City People's Committee said that thanks to the active participation of departments, agencies, and organizations in communes and wards, especially the police force directly working at the grassroots level, the land donation movement has spread more and more widely, receiving the support and agreement of many people. The voluntary land donation of people not only expands many traffic routes, serves the construction of public works, and builds new rural areas, but also contributes to the beautification and creation of a modern and civilized appearance for the urban area of the central city.
