Residents living on Nguyen Tuan Street (Thanh Xuan District, Hanoi) have begun packing up their belongings and moving out to make way for road expansion, helping to alleviate traffic congestion in the area.

Nguyen Tuan Street is approximately 1.1 km long, running parallel to Ring Road 3 and intersecting with Nguyen Trai and Le Van Luong streets. About 480 meters from the Le Van Luong intersection to the beginning of Alley 162 Nguyen Tuan have been widened. However, the 720 meters from Alley 162 Nguyen Tuan remain unwidened, creating a bottleneck that causes frequent traffic congestion during peak hours.

In 2018, the People's Committee of Thanh Xuan District approved the second phase of the Nguyen Tuan road renovation and expansion project with a total investment of approximately 400 billion VND, largely for land acquisition costs. To implement the project, the authorities had to acquire land from 160 households and 11 organizations. 44 structures had to be completely demolished, and 40 cases involved partial demolition, with 16 of these 40 cases having insufficient remaining land and therefore requiring complete demolition.

These days, residents living along Nguyen Tuan Street are dismantling their houses and workshops, handing over their land to make way for road expansion. The images were taken on October 16th.

Many households have voluntarily dismantled their structures to hand over the land for the Nguyen Tuan road expansion project.

The residents quickly dismantled and cleared their houses to return the land to the project.

Landlords are required to hand over their land to the Thanh Xuan District People's Committee, but many businesses have yet to find new premises to relocate to.

Mr. Hoang (owner of a restaurant on Nguyen Tuan Street) said that he received a notice about the relocation deadline half a month ago. "My restaurant is starting to be dismantled after the relocation notice. Currently, I haven't found a new location yet, so I'm temporarily keeping my belongings here. I've tried to find a new place to do business, but finding a suitable business location is very difficult right now, and the prices are too high. If I can't find a place, I don't know where I'll go," Mr. Hoang said.

Shop owners and homeowners often leave behind a lot of furniture and other household items for scrap metal collectors.

Many shops have put up signs announcing their relocation. Most businesses along this street are looking to rent nearby premises to retain their customers.

As soon as the residents had moved all their belongings out of their homes, the contractor began the demolition.

After expansion, this road has a cross-section of 21 m, with a 15 m wide carriageway and 3 m wide sidewalks on both sides.
