According to Chief of Police of Phan Hubei district, Mr. Nguyen Cao Quoc Ky is a resident, not a tour guide as initially reported, nor does he have a license to work as a tour guide, nor does he belong to any travel agency.
Tourists Trang Bao Nguyen and Mr. Nguyen Cao Quoc Ky only know each other on social networking sites promoting Phu Quy island tourism. Colonel Phan Hubei said that the case was not complicated, the tour company that opened a tour on the island (receiving this tourist from Mr. Ky) had returned 750.000 VND to the tourist (for cutting the tour program), so that the tourists could return it to Mr. Ky, but the tourists did not know that the travel company had moved.
Mr. Ky said that this tourist evaded and refused to return the money the two sides had contracted, leading to a scuffle. Phu Quy island district police confirmed that tourist Trang Bao Nguyen was also wrong from the beginning and beat Ky when he was blocked by him in Long Hai commune.
The fact that Mr. Ky posted the incident online and provoked people to disparage tourists right after this incident was wrong, affecting the tourism brand on the island. Currently, the police have asked him to remove inflammatory and disparaging comments on his personal page. According to regulations, the police will sanction Mr. Nguyen Cao Quoc Ky for causing public disorder in accordance with the law.
Currently, the district police call tourist Trang Bao Nguyen to coordinate the settlement, but he does not pick up the phone.
Colonel Phan Hubei said that now on the island, there are many people who work as spontaneous guides for tourists and collect money. In the event of an accident, no one is responsible. Therefore, the island district police recommend that tourists when visiting Phu Quy need to book tours with travel companies with legal entities to be protected according to regulations, as well as to avoid unnecessary risks.
