Google launched a beta program in 2022 allowing users to play Android games on PCs. Since then, the program has gradually expanded compatibility to thousands of titles. Now, a new update will allow users to run most Android games on Windows, while also offering more options. The program is expected to officially exit beta by the end of this year.

This beta program will soon become an optional feature for developers, allowing users to test most mobile games on laptops and desktops. In particular, Google is also aiming to develop several PC games that can be played on Android devices.
Initially, developers were concerned about compatibility with AMD mice, keyboards, and processors, so they voluntarily joined the Google Play Games program. Unlike Microsoft's unsuccessful attempt to bring Android apps to Windows 11 via the Android App Store, Google's program also supports Windows 10.
Following an update later this month, beta testers will be able to freely play any Android game, unless the developer explicitly prohibits it. A new customizable menu will allow users to transfer keyboard and mouse controls to the game's native touchscreen controls. Users will also be able to play on multiple accounts simultaneously.
Why do blockchain games have so much potential?
Google will clearly indicate PC compatibility for Android games.
To help users find compatible games, Google will label games according to their PC interface support level. This system will have categories such as "optimized" and "playable," similar to Valve's Steam Deck verification program. Users can only run titles labeled "untested" through specific searches.
Any computer with at least 8 GB of RAM, a quad-core CPU, 10 GB of storage, and hardware virtualization support can participate in the beta program. Initially, the program only supported Intel CPUs for most games, but Google has since added full support for AMD processors.
Additionally, Google is also partnering with PC manufacturers to offer devices pre-installed with the Google Play Games launcher later this year, possibly coinciding with the end of the beta program. Around 50 PC games will also be playable on Android devices via Google Play Games, with this month's update expanding the list to include titles like Dredge, TABS, and a remake of Disco Elysium aimed at TikTok users with a new vertical display format.
