Soldiers learn from Uncle Ho through practical actions.

From the sea and islands to the border, officers and soldiers of the provincial armed forces concretize the study and emulation of Uncle Ho's teachings through practical actions. Each action contributes to enhancing the image of "Uncle Ho's soldiers" in the hearts of the people.

Amidst the harsh sun and salty winds of Tien Hai island commune, the barracks of the 7th Mixed Company, 519th Battalion, 893rd Regiment, are covered in the green of trees, vegetable gardens, and small flowerbeds in front of the yard. The company is stationed on Hon Doc, part of the Hai Tac archipelago, an area of strategic importance to national defense. In the early days, the unit did not have its own barracks and had to temporarily occupy the Tien Hai Border Guard Post. Electricity had not yet reached the island, drinking water was scarce, and the soldiers' lives were still very difficult.

Lieutenant Tran Van Sang, commander of the 7th Mixed Company, recalled that the officers and soldiers at that time were simultaneously training, on combat readiness duty, and improving their living quarters. The land was barren, and there was a water shortage during the dry season, but the soldiers still tried to grow vegetables and increase their food production to improve their meals. "Learning and following Uncle Ho's teachings in the unit began with very familiar things, from work style to how we interact with the people," Lieutenant Sang said.

In this remote island commune, the image of soldiers of Uncle Ho's army helping people repair houses, transport fresh water, or assisting people during storms and floods has become familiar. Over the years, the 7th Mixed Company has also coordinated with local authorities to participate in disaster relief, search and rescue operations, legal education, and rural development.

In Kien Luong commune, Battalion 207, Regiment 893, has made its mark with models related to civilian outreach work. A noticeable feature of the unit is the strict maintenance of discipline and order, with neat and clean barracks. For many years, the "Rice Jar of Compassion" model has been regularly maintained. Before each meal, each officer and soldier sets aside a small portion of their daily rice ration to help those in need. At the end of the month, this rice is transferred to charitable kitchens or poor households in the area.

Captain Au Ngoc Khoa, Political Officer of Battalion 207, said that over the past five years, the unit has provided more than 5 tons of rice and instant noodles to families in difficult circumstances; and donated more than 4 tons of vegetables and fruits to charitable kitchens. "Officers and soldiers contribute every handful of rice and bundle of vegetables, but everyone feels happy because they are able to help the people," Captain Khoa shared.

In recent times, many units within the provincial armed forces have developed models of following President Ho Chi Minh's teachings, linking them to practical tasks. At the beginning of 2026, at the Command of Defense Zone 4 - Phu Quoc Special Zone, the "Clean Vegetables - Sharing Love" model received much attention. Through practical surveys, the unit found that many poor patients and their relatives undergoing long-term treatment at the Phu Quoc Medical Center faced difficulties with meals, while charitable kitchens lacked fresh vegetables. From the unit's own vegetable garden, bundles of vegetables were harvested each morning and delivered to the hospital. Lieutenant Colonel Le Thanh Nhan, Political Commissar of the Command of Defense Zone 4, said: "The soldiers share whatever they have with the people."

On another front, officers and soldiers of Teams K92 and K93 are still silently traversing forests and mountains in Cambodia, searching for the remains of fallen soldiers. The work is arduous, the terrain treacherous, but they persevere, staying in the area and following every small piece of information. Recently, Mr. Cao Kia (79 years old), along with residents of Omtongso hamlet, Pôn Tứk commune, Dom Nak Chang Ơ district, Kép province (Kingdom of Cambodia), provided information about the burial place of Vietnamese soldiers who died in 1971. According to him, this area was formerly known as "Lon Non Coconut Garden," where many fierce battles took place; now it belongs to Pôn Tứk commune.

Based on intelligence received, on May 18th, officers and soldiers of Team K92 conducted a survey, excavated, and collected the remains of three fallen soldiers in the Omtongso hamlet area. Under the scorching sun in a foreign land, each shovel stroke was carried out carefully. When the first artifacts were discovered, many officers and soldiers were speechless. Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Thanh Hung, Team Leader of Team K92, shared: “Upon receiving the information, we immediately set off to survey the area. Upon arrival, meeting the elderly soldiers who recounted the battle of yesteryear, everyone was deeply moved. Finding our comrades, we were both happy and sad. Our greatest hope is to bring them back to their homeland.”

Colonel Cao Minh Tam, Deputy Political Commissar of the Provincial Military Command, commented: “Learning and following Uncle Ho's teachings in the provincial armed forces is implemented through concrete actions, closely aligned with the tasks of each unit and the lives of the people. The important thing is that officers and soldiers must maintain a sense of responsibility in their work, be close to the people, and be ready to accept and complete tasks in difficult areas. Doing work that earns the people's trust and respect is the most practical way to learn from Uncle Ho.”
