“About Nguyen Huy Thiep” is a book that Lien Viet Books and Dan Tri Publishing House produced in a record short time: 100 days. The book contains special things such as the article by critic Hoang Ngoc Hien “I don’t wish you smooth sailing”, the last article is “Talking alone”, written by writer Nguyen Huy Thiep before Lunar New Year 2020, and the eulogy for writer Nguyen Huy Thiep by poet Nguyen Quang Thieu.

Articles about writer Nguyen Huy Thiep by many famous authors such as writers and poets Nguyen Thuy Kha, Le Minh Ha, Vo Thi Xuan Ha, Vi Thuy Linh, Viet Linh, screenwriter Phan Huyen Thu, researcher Nguyen Thi Minh Thai, photographer Dang Ngoc Thai..., and some foreign authors such as Marion Hennebert, Peter Zinoman, Thomas A. Bass and Thierry Leclere.

The book is built not only to include articles, but also many documents such as photos of writer Nguyen Huy Thiep with literary friends, at the book launch of "Vong Buom", with his family... collected and provided by Gallery 39, along with poetry manuscripts, paintings, plates or ceramic vases with paintings or poems written by the writer.

On the evening of July 4, for the first time, the book's online introduction took place on the Zoom platform and was broadcast live on writer Di Li's Facebook page. The book introduction was attended by many famous writers, poets, artists, researchers, journalists, and domestic and foreign readers who love writer Nguyen Huy Thiep. Writer Di Li was in charge of hosting the program.

The book is filled with intimate emotions about writer Nguyen Huy Thiep, from his first short stories to readers, his first short story collection, the impressions of fellow writers about the first time they met and got to know him... And for writers of the later generation, there are special emotions when approaching his writing.

Writer Vo Thi Xuan Ha recounted how her short story “The Girl Wearing the Green Scarf” was praised by writer Nguyen Huy Thiep. She wrote in the book: “If there were as many diamonds in the world as there were to mark the praises of Nguyen Huy Thiep, then his basket would certainly be the biggest, with the most diamonds…”. “He truly made many people lose sleep because they loved his writing so much that they couldn’t put down the story they were reading. What kind of writing is it that makes mountains, rivers, and streams crumble. What kind of writing doesn’t bother to have good grammar…”

Talking about writer Nguyen Huy Thiep, photographer Dang Ngoc Thai, one of the writer’s close friends, shared: “The more I read about the things Thiep wrote, the more I respect and admire him, because he is a delicate, gentle but very knowledgeable person. The words in my article in the book are the regret of a friend, the regret of a reader.”

Writer Le Thi Minh Ha shared: “My impression of Nguyen Huy Thiep when reading or interacting with him is that he is a very lonely person, very frugal with words and lets others speak for him. I see few writers as realistic as him. Perhaps it is his ability to look at life realistically that makes him write like a sharp knife. The book “About Nguyen Huy Thiep” is not because of the passing of a famous writer, but is a book of friendship, the affection of friends for Nguyen Huy Thiep. He brings us lessons. He is one of the people I admire the most”.

Present at the book launch, Dutch literature professor Dick Gebuys shared his special feelings when he first encountered Nguyen Huy Thiep's writing. He said that this was a special book launch because many of the writer's friends attended.

As for poet and journalist Nguyen Thanh Phong, his view of the book is from a different angle. He believes that this book is very timely, letting us know more about a writer who has shown the changes in society and made readers think about it. His writing makes us think about how to live and how to behave with each other.

Journalist Nguyen Thanh Phong believes that books like this are like lessons that readers need to learn from writers. There are young people, writers who want to pursue a literary career, and they understand many things through this book.

Time is the fairest critic, as writer Di Li said during the book introduction, and until today, when writer Nguyen Huy Thiep's books are still sought after by many young readers, that critic has an answer for the writer.
