Poet Huu Thinh was awarded the Second Class Independence Medal.

According to the Vietnam Writers Association, poet Huu Thinh has just been awarded the Second Class Independence Medal by the State for his outstanding achievements recognized during both war and peace.

Poet Huu Thinh, former President of the Vietnam Writers Association , former President of the Vietnam Union of Associations of Literature and Arts, and a member of the National Assembly for the 10th and 11th terms, was born in 1942 in Tam Duong, Vinh Phuc province.

He participated in combat as a tank and armored vehicle soldier during the war years in the following battlefields: Khe Sanh, Route 9-Southern Laos (1970-1971), Quang Tri (1972), Central Highlands and the Ho Chi Minh Campaign (1974-1975).

After 1975, he studied at the Nguyen Du School of Creative Writing, Class I, the University of Culture, and then the Gorki Academy of Literature. He then worked as Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the Army Literature and Arts Magazine , Editor-in-Chief of the Literature and Arts Newspaper, and participated in the Executive Committee of the Writers' Association for terms 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9 until his retirement.

Poet Huu Thinh has published 20 volumes of poetry, epic poems, essays, literary criticism, and has received numerous awards from the Vietnam Writers Association; the ASEAN Literature Prize; the State Prize for Literature and Arts; and the Ho Chi Minh Prize for Literature and Arts.

The ceremony to receive the Second-Class Independence Order for poet Huu Thinh will take place solemnly in early May 2022 at the Hanoi Grand Theatre with the poetic drama " The Road to the City" and an artistic program.
