Nha Trang fears a lack of tourists during the holiday season due to excessively high airfare prices.

Mr. Pham Minh Nhut, Vice Chairman of the Khanh Hoa Tourism Association, said that according to information gathered from several hotels , the number of room bookings has increased but not dramatically. This is largely due to transportation costs, especially the high price of domestic flights in general and flights to Khanh Hoa in particular.

Tourists disembark at Cam Ranh International Airport.

According to surveys on online flight ticket booking websites, from April 28th to May 3rd, ticket prices on many routes skyrocketed, with some routes costing double or even triple the usual price.

Specifically, a round-trip flight from Hanoi to Cam Ranh on April 29th and the return flight on May 3rd with Vietnam Airlines costs over 7 million VND; Vietjet costs around 7 million VND and Bamboo Airways costs around 6.5 million VND.

According to statistics from Cam Ranh International Airport, from April 27th to May 3rd, 397 domestic flights to Khanh Hoa are expected, a 13% increase compared to the same period in 2022. Meanwhile, the number of international flights to Khanh Hoa is expected to be around 166 (an increase of about 3%).

Mr. Vo Quang Hoang, Chairman of the Khanh Hoa Hotel Association, observed that although the number of flights to Khanh Hoa has increased slightly compared to the same period last year, it is insignificant when compared to the fact that workers get up to 5 consecutive days off during the holiday.

According to Mr. Hoang, due to the high airfare, many tour groups have postponed their plans to visit Khanh Hoa during this period. In particular, the number of tourists from northern provinces is predicted to decrease significantly. Therefore, the local tourism industry is hoping for more individual travelers, families, or friends.

According to surveys, as of now, hotel bookings for the April 30th - May 1st holiday in Khanh Hoa have reached approximately 50% of their capacity. Some hotels with prime locations have reached around 70% occupancy.

"The majority of tourists are domestic, while international visitors to Khanh Hoa are currently very limited, mostly South Koreans. Khanh Hoa tourism is still relying on Chinese tourists, but for various reasons, the number of visitors from this country to Khanh Hoa remains very low," Mr. Hoang said.

The coastal city of Nha Trang is worried about a lack of tourists during the holiday season.

Ms. Hang, the manager of a hotel on Tran Phu Street in Nha Trang City, said that although the number of bookings at the moment is not as high as expected, the trend of traveling with family and friends by private car from Ho Chi Minh City, Dong Nai, Binh Duong, Dak Lak, Lam Dong, etc., is likely to increase in the days leading up to the holiday.

"Airfare is so expensive that families and groups of friends often use their own cars or motorbikes to travel during this time to save money and also to be able to visit more places," Ms. Hang said.

Khanh Hoa province has a total of 55,000 rooms in 1,169 accommodation establishments.

During the upcoming holiday season, if tourists encounter any problems while traveling in Khanh Hoa, they can call the 24/7 hotline at 0947.528.000, dial *2258, or visit the Tourist Support stations on Tran Phu Street for guidance and to report any issues.
