Composer Ton That Lap was born on February 25, 1942, in Hue. He was active in the " Sing for My People" movement, composing songs that resonated throughout the struggles of urban students in Southern Vietnam, such as: "Sing for My People," "Taking to the Streets," and the choral piece "Rice Singing Across the Plains"...
Composer Ton That Lap, author of "Sing for My People," has passed away at the age of 81.
He previously held positions as Vice President of the Ho Chi Minh City Music Association, Vice President of the Vietnam Musicians Association, and Editor-in-Chief of the Vietnam Music Magazine.
Composer Ton That Lap has published collections such as: Street Songs, Sing for My People, Singing Dream Songs, Spring Love Songs, Ton That Lap Anthology and albums like *Kiss*, *Spring Love Songs*…
In addition, he composed many dance and film scores. In 2007, he was awarded the State Prize for Literature and Arts (second round).
In 2022, at the age of 80, composer Ton That Lap held a program titled "Sing for My People," reflecting on his more than half-century of songwriting, at the Ho Chi Minh City Television Theater.
Mourning the loss of the talented musician, composer Truong Quang Luc, author of the song "Vam Co Dong," shared that Ton That Lap was one of the leading composers who wrote songs to encourage the anti-war movement called "Sing for My Compatriots."
In 2022, Ho Chi Minh City Television organized the "Sing for My People" concert dedicated to composer Ton That Lap, reflecting on his more than half-century of songwriting.
The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Culture and Sports will organize the program "Ton That Lap, The Songs That Resound Forever" at 7:30 PM on August 5th at the Ho Chi Minh City Theater.
According to information from the family of musician Ton That Lap, the memorial service for the musician will begin at 9:00 AM on July 28-29 at the National Funeral Home in the South (5 Pham Ngu Lao Street, Ward 3, Go Vap District, Ho Chi Minh City); the funeral procession is scheduled for July 30, after which he will be buried at the Ho Chi Minh City Cemetery.
