Once the youngest member of the Ho Chi Minh City Fine Arts Association at the age of 23, after her charity exhibition titled "Em" (using 100% of the proceeds from the sale of over 80 paintings to build a boarding school for children in mountainous areas), artist Phan Anh Thu returns this time to introduce to the public 25 watercolor portraits, created as a way of documenting her journey of growth through characters that inspire her worldview.
In this exhibition, amidst the expansive lines and colors of bygone days, the artist conveys many ideas and reflections on the times and human life, marking a new version of himself in his own journey of experience.
Viewing Phan Anh Thu's paintings, curator Ly Doi commented: "With 'Em 25' (You 25), we can see the artist's rigorous training and the traces of many trips from cities and craft villages to the Central Highlands, Northwest Vietnam, and even Tibet. This training is clearly visible in Phan Anh Thu's increasingly thoughtful approach to painting, to finding ways to tell stories that are moving and profound, rather than simply focusing on technique. Having loved painting since childhood and having studied interior design at university, these two things have helped Phan Anh Thu become more confident in her work with watercolors and proactively delve into exploration, even knowing that this is not an easy path." Art researcher Ngo Kim Khoi commented: "It's not simply a series of 25 portraits; it's a subtle self-portrait of a soul always yearning to learn, resonating with life, music , and art. Phan Anh Thu gently opened a beautiful diary at the age of 25 with expansive watercolors. Each portrait tells a life story, a unique breath, and also serves as a mirror reflecting and 'self-portraiting' herself."
