Many positive developments

The Party building work of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in recent times, especially since the 13th Party Congress, has seen many positive changes, meeting the requirements set by the Central Committee for foreign affairs and Party work abroad.

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Secretary of the Party Committee, and Secretary of the Party Committee of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Bui Thanh Son, chaired the Conference on the Implementation of Party Work Tasks for 2023, in February 2023.

The Party Committee of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is one of the large Party Committees directly under the Party Committee of the Central Agencies Bloc and has a rich tradition of over 70 years. After merging with the Party Committee for Overseas Affairs according to Decision No. 209-QD/TW dated November 26, 2019, of the Politburo , the Party Committee of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs became a grassroots-level Party Committee undertaking additional tasks related to overseas Party work.

Therefore, the Party work of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has many unique characteristics, undertaking both domestic and overseas Party building work, while also leading mass mobilization and community outreach efforts for Vietnamese people abroad.

In conjunction with the implementation of foreign policy tasks.

It can be said that the Party building work of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in recent times, especially since the 13th National Congress of the Party, has seen many positive changes. Building on the tradition of revolutionary diplomacy founded and directly guided by President Ho Chi Minh, the Party Committee of the Ministry places great importance on political and ideological work, unifying will and action, and maintaining strict organization and discipline to meet the requirements set by the Central Committee for foreign affairs and Party work.

In the spirit of closely linking Party building with the implementation of political and foreign affairs tasks, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has always identified its central and overarching mission as: "Ensuring the highest national interests on the basis of the fundamental principles of the United Nations Charter and international law, equality, cooperation, and mutual benefit," and "Continuing to implement an independent, self-reliant, multilateral, and diversified foreign policy; proactively and actively integrating into the international community comprehensively, deeply, and effectively; maintaining a peaceful and stable environment; and continuously enhancing Vietnam's international standing and prestige."

The Party Committee of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued Resolution No. 01-NQ/ĐUB dated August 25, 2021, on “Strengthening political and ideological work in the current situation”, Resolution No. 02-NQ/ĐUB dated December 24, 2021, on “Improving the leadership capacity and fighting strength of grassroots party organizations and the quality of party members”, Resolution No. 07-NQ/ĐUB dated May 15, 2023, on “Improving the quality of branch meetings”, and Decision No. 396/QĐ-BNG promulgating regulations on the use of social networks for cadres, party members, civil servants, public employees, and workers of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Vietnamese representative agencies abroad.

This helps cadres and Party members to thoroughly understand the Party's guidelines and viewpoints, and the State's policies and laws, promoting the exemplary role of cadres and Party members, especially leaders, in implementing, disseminating, and protecting the Party's guidelines and policies, and the State's laws. It also establishes standards for behavior and conduct on social media and discipline in speech. This, in turn, helps enhance the political fortitude of cadres and Party members, fostering unity and solidarity in successfully implementing the Party's platform, guidelines, and policies.

Strengthening the protection of the Party's ideological foundation.

Since the 13th National Congress of the Party, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has consistently innovated the content and form of its propaganda, promptly providing official information and spreading positive information about the country's achievements, the Party and State's policies and guidelines, serving as a basis for ideological guidance and public opinion, helping to raise awareness and a sense of responsibility among cadres and Party members; disseminating directives and guidelines of the Politburo, the Secretariat, and the Government "On continuing to promote and improve the quality and effectiveness of building and implementing grassroots democracy regulations"; and developing and implementing the inspection and supervision program for the entire term and annually.

Simultaneously, emphasis was placed on research and forecasting the situation, launching political activities and organizing numerous conferences and seminars, especially the seminar on applying Ho Chi Minh's diplomatic thought in implementing the foreign policy guidelines of the 13th National Party Congress; the thematic seminar combining in-person and online participation on the occasion of the 78th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnamese diplomatic sector; the five-year review of the implementation of Directive 05-CT/TW on "promoting the study and emulation of Ho Chi Minh's thought, morality, and style" with many meaningful activities to recall the glorious traditions of the nation and commemorate the life, contributions, and noble sacrifices of President Ho Chi Minh to the revolutionary cause of the Party; actively implementing Conclusion No. 01-KL/TW of the Politburo of the 13th Party Congress; consolidating and strengthening the Steering Committee 35 on "Strengthening the protection of the Party's ideological foundation and combating erroneous and hostile viewpoints". Furthermore, to understand the aspirations and desires of young diplomatic staff, Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son and other Ministry leaders have held numerous direct dialogues with the Ministry's Youth Union to provide guidance and inspire a love for the profession, further motivating them to inherit and develop the glorious traditions of Vietnam's revolutionary diplomacy.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs received a commendation from the Party Committee of the Bloc for its participation in the 2023 Political Commentary Contest on Defending the Party's Ideological Foundation.

Over the past two years, the Party Committee of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has launched and extensively implemented the Political Commentary Contest on Protecting the Party's Ideological Foundation throughout the Party organization. In 2022, the Party Committee of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs was awarded a Certificate of Merit by the Party Committee of the Central Agencies Bloc for being a subordinate Party organization that successfully implemented the Political Commentary Contest. In 2023, with the highest number of entries compared to other ministries and agencies (613 entries), a 2.5-fold increase compared to 2022, and for the first time with the participation of foreign friends, the Party Committee of the Central Agencies Bloc also awarded a Certificate of Merit for outstanding achievements in implementing Resolution 35-NQ/TW of the Politburo and a Certificate of Merit for outstanding achievements in implementing the Political Commentary Contest on Protecting the Party's Ideological Foundation in 2023.

It is evident that the Political Essay Contest on Protecting the Party's Ideological Foundation has become a widespread political activity within affiliated Party organizations, mass organizations, and Vietnamese associations abroad. This has contributed to raising awareness and responsibility among cadres, Party members, and the general public, effectively preventing and combating ideological and political decline, erroneous and hostile viewpoints, distorted and harmful information, and manifestations of "self-evolution" and "self-transformation."

With the determination to successfully implement the Resolution of the 13th National Congress of the Party and the Resolution of the Central Committee No. 4 (13th term) on strengthening Party building and rectification, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs continues to link Party building tasks with the development of the sector, leveraging foreign resources to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of Party work abroad, and continuing to move forward steadily under the light of the Party's Political Platform and Resolutions, maintaining a strong foundation and ever-green branches, contributing to enhancing the country's potential, position, and international prestige, striving for the goal of "a prosperous people, a strong nation, democracy, fairness, and civilization."
