In modern life, women in Ninh Binh constantly learn, improve their knowledge, enhance their abilities, strive to fulfill their assigned tasks well, and dare to think and act in economic development... thereby affirming their role and position in the family and society, creating a ripple effect in the community. They are "beautiful flowers" on their special day, International Women's Day, March 8th.
Previously, many highland communes in Nho Quan district still held patriarchal attitudes, with long-standing customs and traditions making women a disadvantaged group. However, recent efforts to promote gender equality have contributed to enhancing the role of women and girls. It is no longer uncommon for husbands to go to the market, cook meals, or clean the house. Economic responsibilities are shared, so couples no longer place too much emphasis on housework. Furthermore, women are actively contributing to social work and participating in local cultural and artistic activities.
In Ky Phu commune, where the Muong ethnic minority accounts for nearly 80% of the population, Ms. Dinh Thi Thoa, the Chairwoman of the Women's Union, has long been known as a dynamic, enthusiastic, and capable leader who excels in both her professional and personal life. Ms. Thoa joined the Women's Union in 2010, starting as the Vice Chairwoman. Throughout her career, she has continuously strived to improve her skills and meet the demands of her work.
By 2018, she was appointed Chairperson of the Women's Union of the commune. In addition, she also participated in the People's Council and the Party Committee of the commune… After completing her social work, she returned to her family and became a capable woman, caring for her parents, husband, and children, and nurturing family happiness.
Ms. Thoa shared: "A happy family is a solid foundation for women to confidently develop their careers. Aware of this, I try to balance and organize my time scientifically to successfully complete both my work and my family responsibilities." According to Ms. Thoa, women face limitations compared to men when participating in social work because they have to manage many family matters. However, this doesn't mean women should miss opportunities to step out into society.
"In the past, life was difficult, gender inequality was quite serious, and men made all the decisions in the family, leaving women with no say and no voice. As life improved, gender inequality gradually disappeared. Personally, I think women need to be dynamic and actively participate in social work to enhance interaction and engagement, gradually asserting their position and role in society. We always encourage and create conditions for female members to participate in local activities," Ms. Thoa said.
With the support of women's associations at all levels, the role and status of women are increasingly affirmed and enhanced both within the family and in society. Not only are they actively asserting themselves in social work, but women members also demonstrate acumen in economic development, making significant contributions to local development.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Chin, Director of Thanh Liem Company, is a model female member in economic development of Bich Dao ward, Ninh Binh city. Ms. Chin shared: "As a woman living in modern society, I always think that I must constantly strive to take control of my life, be financially independent, and only then will I have the means to support and help those in need around me."
In 2010, my husband and I founded Thanh Liem Company, specializing in lighting equipment and interior decoration. In the early stages of our business, lacking experience, we faced numerous difficulties. However, with determination, my husband, our colleagues, and I explored business solutions and expanded our market. After 14 years of establishment and development, the company has expanded to five more business locations both within and outside the province, employing over 500 staff, including nearly 300 women, with an average monthly income of 6-7 million VND.
Besides developing her business, Ms. Chín actively participates in movements and campaigns launched by the Women's Union, carrying out social welfare activities with hundreds of millions of VND each year. "Despite my busy business, I still make time to actively participate in the Women's Union's activities. As a Catholic woman, I am very interested in connecting women of different faiths, encouraging them to participate in the Union's activities, living virtuous lives, and showing respect for God and love for the country. Through the Union's activities, I understand more about patriotic emulation movements, campaigns, and the Union's key tasks, and I recognize my responsibility to the Women's Union and the community," Ms. Chín shared.
For her positive contributions to local movements, Ms. Chín was awarded a Certificate of Merit as an Outstanding Catholic Woman by the Provincial People's Committee for the period 2011-2016, and received commendations and awards from People's Committees at all levels, as well as recognition from various associations. Her family has been recognized as a Culturally Exemplary Family for many consecutive years.
Over the past period, the emulation movement "Building the modern Ninh Binh woman" has been actively implemented by women's associations at all levels in the province, along with promoting the study and emulation of Ho Chi Minh's ideology, ethics, and style, and other local emulation movements.
In response to the movement, over 90% of cadres and members throughout the province participated, contributing to more than 700 projects and tasks, and over 5,000 exemplary models and initiatives were recognized and rewarded. Through this movement, the pride and aspirations for development of Ninh Binh women have been awakened, aiming to build an image of women who are knowledgeable, healthy, responsible to themselves, their families, society, and the country, with an elegant lifestyle that reflects the distinctive characteristics of the people of the ancient capital of Hoa Lu.
