On January 29, 2000, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong planted a banyan tree at the headquarters of the Dong Hoi Commune People's Committee, Dong Anh District, Hanoi .

After 24 years of growth, the banyan tree is now as tall as a three-story building. For over 20 years, the tree has been carefully and thoughtfully cared for by the local people and officials of Dong Hoi commune.

The banyan tree is growing well, with lush branches and leaves.

During the Lunar New Year of the Dragon 2012, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong visited and extended his best wishes to the Elderly Association branch in Lai Da village (Dong Hoi commune).

Mr. Con was a classmate of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong from primary to secondary school.

Mr. Nguyen Phu Viet, Secretary of the Lai Da village Party branch and also the head of the Nguyen Phu clan, recounted that two weeks ago, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong visited his hometown and the house at the beginning of the village.

"That day, the General Secretary came to light incense for his ancestors and visit the newly renovated house with its tiled roof and garden," Mr. Viet said with emotion.
