During periods of heavy rain and flooding, the most common skin diseases are those caused by bacterial and fungal infections.

The most common fungal skin diseases are athlete's foot and toenail fungus. The main cause is that people often wade through water, which softens the skin and reduces its ability to protect itself from the environment, making it easier for external agents like fungi to penetrate. Fungi thrive in hot, humid environments, so during the rainy season and floods, people are more susceptible to athlete's foot, athlete's foot, and toenail fungus.

With abundant waste and increased humidity, people are more prone to fungal skin infections, including athlete's foot, with scaling lesions appearing first between the toes. Lesions on the trunk, in the skin folds, often show redness.

With scabies, patients often experience lesions on the hands, palms, and areas with thin skin; there may be blisters; and the skin may be raised. This disease causes intense itching at night, leading to discomfort for the patient, and it is also highly contagious to family members.

Bacterial dermatitis is most common in rainy and humid weather, when the skin loses its elasticity and is therefore more susceptible to invasion by bacteria and fungi, leading to conditions like impetigo, boils, and folliculitis.

Additionally, when people wade through water frequently, the water can contain many allergens and irritants, leading to irritant contact dermatitis or allergic contact dermatitis on the feet.

When people come into contact with chemicals and heavy metals by soaking their feet in water for extended periods, they may experience redness, itching, and scaling in the affected areas. In areas with thin skin, such as the face and neck, contact with gases or vapors can also cause redness and scaling.

Currently, many patients mistakenly self-treat, leading to more serious illnesses, such as applying leaves, soaking in leaf solutions, excessive rubbing, using medications of unknown origin, or borrowing prescriptions from others.

At that time, the skin condition did not improve but worsened. To prevent skin diseases, people in flood-affected areas need to pay attention to maintaining a clean environment, ensuring disinfection of hands and body, and using protective equipment such as boots and rubber gloves when in contact with contaminated water sources to avoid contact with disease-causing agents.

If you have to wade through rainwater, you must clean yourself thoroughly when you get home, dry the spaces between your toes and fingers, and let your shoes and sandals dry completely before using them again.

When experiencing skin abnormalities, people should seek early treatment from a dermatologist. During the rainy season, people should change their habits, such as avoiding damp socks and shoes, which can cause fungal and bacterial infections; maintaining good personal hygiene daily; and avoiding unnecessary visits to clinics, instead seeking proper diagnosis and treatment.
