Every evening, specialized vehicles belonging to the Urban Environmental Enterprise, Son La Urban Environment and Services Joint Stock Company, regularly carry out the task of watering and cleaning the streets throughout the city.
At 10 PM, we arrived at the Dong Xen pumping station, Group 2, Chieng Coi Ward, and witnessed a team of drivers operating water trucks to clean the streets. Tonight, the team was cleaning the Lo Van Gia, Ban Co, Hoa Ban, and Le Thai Tong roads. About 30 minutes earlier, driver Ha Van Chinh had arrived at the station, filled the water tank, and cleaned the two spray nozzles. Mr. Chinh explained: "As a specialized vehicle, it can transport a large volume of water and is designed with various spray patterns depending on the purpose and actual conditions. Besides cleaning streets and watering trees and flowers in public areas, the vehicle can also be used for firefighting if necessary."
Nguyen Van Phong, a driver in the team, shared: "Each truck has enough water to spray and wash a 1.2 km stretch of road. Due to the nature of our work, we start late at night and finish around 3-4 am the next morning. Despite the hard work, we always encourage each other to complete our assigned tasks well."
Currently, the enterprise has 115 workers and 14 vehicles performing tasks such as manual sweeping and garbage collection; clearing waste along roads and manholes; maintaining road dividers; transporting waste; watering and cleaning roads; and environmental sanitation.
Ms. Dam Thi Thanh Thom, Director of the Enterprise, shared: "Every month, the unit develops a plan to select roads and areas that frequently generate dust and dirt for washing according to the contract between the City's Urban Management Department and Son La Urban Environment and Services Joint Stock Company. On average, each road is washed 3 to 4 times a month to ensure effective cleaning. The Enterprise arranges the vehicle's operation time appropriately; it is carried out after sweeping is completed, not overlapping with garbage collection vehicle operations, and not during rainy weather."
Watering the streets cleans the roads, removes fine dust particles dispersed in the air, and contributes to protecting people's health. Ms. Bui Thi Nguyet, from Group 8, Quyet Thang Ward, said: "After spraying water to wash the streets, I see that the streets are cleaner, the dust is much reduced, and the furniture in my house is less dusty."
Mr. Ha Van Chinh added: "Whenever heavy rains cause flooding and generate a large amount of mud on some roads, the drivers' team is always on standby, promptly arriving at locations with a high risk of localized flooding, such as the intersection near the bus station, Nguyen Luong Bang Street, Group 8, Quyet Thang Ward; the intersection near Vincom Plaza shopping center and the area of Group 9, Quyet Tam Ward... to clear the mud and spray it clean as soon as the water recedes, ensuring environmental hygiene and contributing to limiting the risk of disease outbreaks."
As night falls and traffic thins out, the street cleaners continue their tireless work. Despite the hard work, they are always proud to have contributed to making the streets cleaner and more beautiful.
