On the afternoon of May 27.5, the website of the carrier Ninja Van in Vietnam deleted the map showing its post offices across the country. Previously, this map was found to have no captions on the names and locations of the Hoang Sa and Truong Sa archipelagos under Vietnamese sovereignty.
When contacted, Ninja Van Vietnam did not give any feedback on the matter. Meanwhile, Ms. Ying Ying Wu, Ninja Van media representative for Southeast Asia, said that the company has received information related to the content of the map that does not show the Hoang Sa and Truong Sa archipelagoes. Ms. Wu also confirmed that the company is using the map provided by Mapbox and OpenStreetMap as two partners.
“We are working with data providers to ensure the Paracels and Spratlys will be added to the map. At the same time, the company has removed the map display integrated on the current website," said Ms. Wu.
The representative did not comment further on the case and did not provide a specific time for the parties to fix the shortcomings. Besides, Ninja Van has not yet made another statement when using the map missing two archipelagos under Vietnam's sovereignty when providing services in this market.
As for Mapbox and OpenStreetMap, both claim their services provide accurate addresses of places around the world. On the OpenStreetMap website, the area that used to be Vietnam's Hoang Sa archipelago is annotated with the name "Tam Sa". Meanwhile, the name marked in the Spratly Islands is mainly in Chinese and the place name is given by this country, only a small part is written "Khanh Hoa Province".
And Mapbox does not annotate in the above two locations, only shows the archipelago without names. Part of the South China Sea, this unit annotated “South China Sea”.
