Alongside technical work, Can Tho City Power Company is promoting the efficient and economical use of electricity in the community. Mr. Huynh Huu Ky, Deputy Director of Can Tho City Power Company, stated: In 2026, the power sector, in coordination with the Department of Industry and Trade and city organizations, will strengthen communication and diversify outreach methods to raise awareness of efficient and economical electricity use in the community. Especially during peak periods of hot weather, the power sector advises customers to proactively adjust their electricity usage habits, limiting the simultaneous use of multiple high-power appliances during peak hours from 12 PM to 3 PM and from 9 PM to 11 PM daily; prioritizing the use of energy-saving appliances, and maximizing the use of natural light and ventilation to reduce electricity consumption. For air conditioners, the temperature should be set at 26°C or higher and combined with the use of fans to increase cooling efficiency; and air conditioners should be cleaned regularly. Pay attention to using sun-blocking curtains, planting greenery, and improving ventilation in living spaces to limit heat absorption… Forming habits of using electricity economically and efficiently not only helps customers reduce living expenses but also avoids sudden spikes in electricity bills during hot months.
Besides focusing on promoting electricity savings among residential customers, the electricity sector also collaborates with businesses in implementing energy-saving solutions. Mr. Vu Hoai Bao, Manager of Hong Tham Food Co., Ltd. in Cai Rang ward, shared: “During the hot months, electricity sector officials and workers have assisted businesses in checking the safety of their electrical systems. They have guided businesses in applying energy-saving solutions, paying attention to scheduling production during off-peak hours and limiting the operation of high-power equipment during peak hours. In addition, the business has proactively installed a self-sufficient rooftop solar power system to reduce electricity costs.”
Thanks to the proactive and coordinated implementation of solutions to ensure electricity supply, combined with promoting energy-saving practices, the entire city saved over 104.2 million kWh of electricity in the first four months of 2026, exceeding the plan by more than 162%, equivalent to a saving of over 4.8% of the total commercial electricity output.
Along with the task of ensuring a safe and continuous electricity supply to serve the socio -economic development of the city, the electricity sector will continue to promote public awareness campaigns on energy conservation and efficiency. At the same time, customers are encouraged to proactively monitor their electricity consumption through the electricity sector's customer care applications to control monthly electricity usage and avoid sudden bill increases during the hot season. This will not only help reduce pressure on the power system but also enable the electricity sector to effectively fulfill its role in providing stable electricity to meet the production, business, and daily life needs of the city's residents.
