NTO - The Victory of Dien Bien Phu

On April 11th, in Dien Bien Phu city (Dien Bien province), the Ministry of National Defense, in coordination with the Central Propaganda Department, the Ministry of Public Security , the Ho Chi Minh National Political Academy, and Dien Bien province, organized a national-level scientific conference on the theme "The Dien Bien Phu Victory and the Cause of Building and Defending the Socialist Republic of Vietnam".

The workshop was chaired by: General Luong Cuong, Member of the Political Bureau, Standing Member of the Central Military Commission, Head of the General Political Department of the Vietnam People's Army; Nguyen Xuan Thang, Member of the Political Bureau, Director of the Ho Chi Minh National Political Academy, Chairman of the Central Theoretical Council; Nguyen Trong Nghia, Secretary of the Central Committee of the Party, Head of the Central Propaganda Department; along with leaders of the Ministry of National Defense , the Ministry of Public Security, the General Political Department, the Dien Bien Provincial Party Committee, etc.

The workshop was attended by over 400 delegates from central agencies, provinces, cities, and units throughout the military.

In his opening remarks at the seminar, General Luong Cuong affirmed that the Dien Bien Phu Victory is one of the glorious milestones in the nation's history of resistance against foreign invaders, becoming a symbol of the strength of the Vietnamese people in the Ho Chi Minh era, leaving valuable lessons for the Vietnamese revolution.

The seminar is one of a series of important and practical activities commemorating the 70th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory. It is an opportunity for the entire Party, people, and army to review the indomitable fighting tradition of previous generations, and to remember the compatriots and comrades who fought and bravely sacrificed themselves in the resistance war against French colonial aggression. The results of the seminar will contribute to fostering patriotism, national pride and self-respect, the will for independence, self-reliance, and the aspiration for peace; consolidating the faith and political determination of the entire Party, people, and army; and simultaneously combating erroneous views that deny the resistance war and the great revolutionary struggle of our people. The seminar will further affirm and deepen the historical significance and importance of the Dien Bien Phu Victory; and draw valuable lessons applicable to the cause of building and defending the socialist Vietnamese Fatherland.

In his opening remarks at the seminar, Central Party Committee Secretary and Head of the Central Propaganda Department Nguyen Trong Nghia emphasized that 70 years have passed, but the great stature and historical significance of the Dien Bien Phu Victory remain undiminished, serving as a great source of inspiration for all Vietnamese people in the current cause of national construction and defense. In particular, the spirit of unity, self-reliance, self-strength, the will to fight and win, and the historical lessons from the Dien Bien Phu Victory remain invaluable, and have been, are, and will continue to empower our nation to move forward on the path of building and defending the socialist Vietnamese Fatherland, towards the goal of a prosperous people, a strong nation, democracy, justice, and civilization.

Head of the Central Propaganda Department Nguyen Trong Nghia requested delegates to analyze and clarify the international, regional, and domestic context; the schemes and tactics of French colonialism and American intervention; the strategic vision and correct, wise policies of the Central Party Committee, headed by President Ho Chi Minh, in leading the entire people and army in the resistance war against French colonialism; and the scale and significance of the Dien Bien Phu victory… The seminar contributed to deepening the scale and significance, drawing valuable theoretical and practical lessons from the historic Dien Bien Phu campaign; enhancing national pride and self-respect; consolidating the confidence and political determination of the entire Party, people, and army in the cause of national renewal and the successful implementation of the Resolution of the 13th National Congress of the Party; and making a practical contribution to educating the entire people, especially the younger generation, about the tradition of patriotism. At the same time, the seminar was an opportunity to combat and refute erroneous viewpoints, and to thwart all schemes and tactics of hostile forces against the Vietnamese revolution. Successfully carrying out the cause of building and defending the socialist Vietnamese Fatherland, and continuing to nurture the aspiration for a prosperous and happy nation.

At the seminar, delegates heard presentations from authors and units on the following topics: Combating negative tendencies and strengthening determination to achieve complete victory in the Dien Bien Phu campaign; historical lessons of the Dien Bien Phu victory for the People's Public Security forces; the ethnic minorities of Dien Bien during the Dien Bien Phu campaign in 1954; logistical strength in the Dien Bien Phu campaign; the Dien Bien Phu victory - lessons on building a people's war strategy...

The delegates focused on analyzing and clarifying the valuable lessons learned from the Dien Bien Phu Victory to apply them appropriately to the current cause of national construction and defense, especially the cause of building the army, consolidating national defense, and protecting the Fatherland in the new situation. This contributed to clarifying many new aspects, issues, and important contents regarding the Dien Bien Phu Victory and the cause of building and protecting the socialist Fatherland of Vietnam.

Politburo member and Director of the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics, Nguyen Xuan Thang, commended the efforts of the units in advising, preparing, and successfully organizing the seminar. The seminar's results have supplemented important documents, events, and assessments, affirming and deepening the significance and importance of the historic Dien Bien Phu Victory. This also serves as valuable research, propaganda, and learning material.

Comrade Nguyen Xuan Thang suggested that agencies, units, academies, and schools in the military should strengthen propaganda and education, and fully and profoundly implement the research results in practice.
