Before establishing the company and turning the herbal chicken farming model into a farm, Mr. Nguyen Tien Sy (Thuan Hoa residential group, Dong Son ward, Quang Tri province), had spent nearly 5 years raising chickens on a small scale.

“At that time, I raised them in the traditional way, so my income was not much. With each passing year, I accumulated more experience in raising them, in the market, and in creating an initial market area,” Mr. Sy confided.
When he realized that animal husbandry must have its own direction, taking advantage of available and cheap food sources to be successful and highly effective, he boldly established and became the Director of Moc Nhien Production and Agriculture Company Limited to expand the farm, invest in the farm system and raise chickens using herbal methods.
“That means chicken feed is processed in a special way with a reasonable nutritional regimen. In particular, we focus on natural herbs and use agricultural products as the main food for the chickens,” Mr. Sy added.
Raising herbal chickens, the farm raised a few thousand chickens in the first batches and gradually increased to 10,000, 20,000 chickens. The chickens were purchased from a reputable and guaranteed chicken breeding facility in Hai Phong . From many batches, the chickens grew well and there were no cases of disease.

According to Mr. Sy, chicken feed is mixed with many ingredients such as bran, corn and herbs. Among them, there are ingredients related to natural herbs such as green beans, soybeans, some types of herbs such as large-leaf tea, elephant grass, banana tree, jade plant, bear bile, and Chinese coriander.
“We grow the basic herbs ourselves. When harvested, the herbs are cleaned and put into a grinder, then mixed with agricultural by-products in proportions depending on the age of the chickens to feed them daily,” said Mr. Sy.
Raising herbal chickens has many advantages. Chickens eat a lot of herbal ingredients to increase their antibodies and the raising process will reduce the use of antibiotics to prevent disease.
“Our farm only uses antibiotics in the first short period of raising chicks. After the chickens are a month old, we will supplement and gradually switch to herbal feed. Natural medicinal herbs contain many disease-fighting substances, reducing disease outbreaks in livestock,” Mr. Sy shared.
Herbal chickens raised at the farm will be sold after 5 months with a weight of 1.6-2 kg/chicken. The commercial price is about 80 thousand VND/kg.

Mr. Sy confided: “The reason why the chicken is sold at a low price is because the company has the initiative to source herbal food and reduce some other costs. Therefore, the selling price is always accepted by the market. Because the chicken is raised mainly on green roughage, the quality is clean, delicious, the chicken meat is chewy and sweet, so customers really like it.”
After many successful batches of herbal chickens, the Company expanded production to two facilities in Dong Son ward and Nam Trach commune (Quang Tri). In order to ensure the supply chain for restaurants and hotels in the area and neighboring provinces, the Company implemented a rotating production process.
At the breeding facilities, there are 6 different zones invested and the chickens are also released at different times every month. In the rainy and cold season, the farm also applies a suitable production process to avoid interruption of supply to customers. When re-herding with many different barns, the barns are all designed to be raised in hot or cold weather.
Mr. Nguyen Tien Sy: “The farm has received technical advice on farming and disease prevention from the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Quang Tri. Currently, the farm has 6 sub-areas, each of which includes a playground and a barn of about 1,200 m2. Each year, the farm sells 50 to 60 qualified chickens, with revenue of about 12 billion VND, and a profit of about 20-30%”.
