From the beginning of 2023 until now, Mr. Thanh's family has sold more than 2 tons of commercial snails, earning 180 million VND.

When he started raising black snails, Mr. Thanh renovated nearly 4,000 square meters of his family's water surface and built a breeding system that met technical standards. After completing the ponds, Mr. Thanh divided the area into 10 sections and released over 40,000 snail hatchlings for the first batch.

“Over the years, this model has brought in a considerable income for my family. In particular, from the beginning of 2023 until now, I have sold more than 2 tons of commercial snails, earning 180 million VND. In addition, I have also sold nearly 200,000 snail hatchlings, earning nearly 40 million VND. This income has helped my family stabilize our lives and provides the conditions to expand the scale in the future,” Mr. Thanh shared.

Reportedly, Mr. Thanh's family recently released an additional 50,000 snail hatchlings; the snails have adapted and developed well, and are expected to be harvested in December with a fairly high yield.

Having started raising them in 2021, the black snail farming model of Mr. Nguyen Trong Than (Thanh Son village) has brought a considerable income to his family.

The Vu Quang District Youth Union visited the black snail farming model of Mr. Nguyen Trong Than (Thanh Son village, Duc Linh commune).

According to Mr. Than, black snails are easy to raise but require clean water. During the rearing process, to ensure the snails are healthy and grow quickly, it's important to provide just the right amount of food regularly, avoiding overfeeding to prevent excess food from polluting the water. Besides keeping the pond clean with proper care, it's also necessary to provide shade for the snails using aquatic plants, and the water level must be maintained according to weather conditions.

“Thanks to adhering to proper farming procedures, the snails grow quickly. In 2023, my family sold over 1 ton of snail meat, bringing in nearly 90 million VND in revenue. In the future, I will expand the scale to increase income for my family,” Mr. Than shared.

Thanks to the success of the black snail farming model invested in by Mr. Thanh and Mr. Than, many households in Duc Linh commune have come to learn from their experience and are gradually replicating it. It is known that from the beginning of 2023 to the present, Duc Linh commune has added 30 black snail farming models with a total water surface area of over 4 hectares. This not only helps people increase their income but also helps the locality meet the income criteria in building a model new rural area.

In particular, the Duc Linh Commune Youth Union has also established a cooperative for raising black snails in Thanh Son village, with 10 members participating. The cooperative was created to stabilize the output for its members, support each other with farming techniques and market access, with the ultimate goal of increasing income.

The black snail farming model of Mr. Duong Dinh Luan (a member of the Thanh Son village black snail farming cooperative) is currently yielding commercial snails.

According to black snail farmers, raising them is not too difficult once the techniques are understood. This species is easy to care for, has a quick return on investment, and yields high profits. Their food source consists of readily available garden items such as cassava leaves, jackfruit fibers, and various vegetables and fruits. They only need to be fed once a day, with the amount adjusted according to their appetite.

Mr. Nguyen Xuan The, Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of the People's Committee of Duc Linh commune, shared: "Although black snail farming is a new model in the commune, it has initially brought stable economic benefits to families, contributing to opening up a new direction for local people, diversifying the livestock structure, and jointly building a model new rural area in the locality. We are currently encouraging and creating favorable conditions for people to develop more black snail farming models, especially by mobilizing people to participate in cooperatives to create a source of high-quality black snails, in order to increase income and develop family economies."
