On February 5th, a day before the opening ceremony of the Milan-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics, the Olympic torch relay carried the sacred flame – a symbol of the event's longevity, representing peace, friendship, solidarity, and the continuity between ancient and modern cultures – to the Duomo Cathedral in Milan, Italy, in front of a large crowd.
According to the schedule, on February 6th, the torch relay will continue its journey in Milan, passing by the San Siro stadium before lighting the flame at the Peace Gate (Arco della Pace).
A second Olympic flame will also be lit in the resort town of Cortina d'Ampezzo, in the Veneto region.
The Olympic torch traveled 12,000km in 63 days, passing through more than 300 cities across Italy, before arriving in Milan.
The opening ceremony of this year's Winter Olympics will take place at the San Siro stadium at 7 PM local time on February 6th (1 AM on February 7th in Vietnam) and will last approximately 3 hours.
American artist Mariah Carey, Italian opera singer Andrea Bocelli, and Chinese pianist Lang Lang are among the many big names expected to perform at the ceremony.
The event was also attended by many heads of state and high-ranking officials, including US Vice President JD Vance and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
Although details about the opening ceremony have not yet been released, the organizers revealed that the program will revolve around the theme of harmony and connection between diverse spaces, from the economic and financial center of Milan to the snow-capped mountains of Cortina d'Ampezzo.
The creative director of the opening ceremony, Marco Balich, said the program would convey positive, unifying messages and tell the story of a young, modern, and forward-looking Italy.
As part of this event, the organizers will also celebrate Italian design and fashion , with a special tribute to the legendary designer Giorgio Armani, who passed away last year at the age of 91.
