During an official meeting with Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele, President Donald Trump confirmed that he had decided to temporarily exempt import tariffs on many technology items such as phones, computers, and semiconductor components after a conversation with Apple CEO Tim Cook.

The US President said that his decision to temporarily postpone reciprocal tariffs on smartphones showed his flexibility. He also said he had spoken with the Apple CEO.

"I haven't changed my mind, but I'm flexible. You can't just have one wall and go straight through it. Sometimes you have to go around it, under it, or over it. I recently spoke with Tim Cook. I've helped Tim Cook and the entire industry. I don't want to hurt anyone," the US President said.

On the evening of April 12th (Vietnam time), US President Donald Trump announced exemptions for many electronic devices from tariffs. Prior to this, the tariff and retaliatory tax policies imposed on many countries, particularly the 125% tariff on goods manufactured in China, had caused turmoil in the technology industry.

If tariffs take effect, companies like Apple will face pressure to raise product prices. Meanwhile, the new policy helps devices like iPhones, iPads, Macs, Apple Watches, and AirTags avoid heavy tariffs when imported into the US.

According to analysts, the Trump administration's tax exemption helped Apple avoid its biggest crisis since the pandemic, although this may only be temporary.

However, the joy was short-lived when US President Donald Trump announced that these products would be subject to semiconductor tariffs. According to Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, a separate tariff schedule is expected to be announced in the next one to two months.

According to analysts, the Trump administration's conflicting tariff moves could create instability on Wall Street, while companies like Apple are likely to be in a state of unease.
