The 80th anniversary celebration of the Traditional Day of the Culture Sector (August 28, 1945 - August 28, 2025), held at the Hanoi Grand Theatre on the morning of August 23, was an opportunity for the entire sector to affirm the special position of culture in the cause of building and defending the Fatherland, along with the aspiration for a prosperous and happy national development in the new era.
Vietnamese culture has affirmed its pivotal role in social life. Many tangible and intangible heritage sites have been honored by UNESCO, from Hue Royal Court Music, the Gong Culture Space of the Central Highlands, Ha Long Bay - Cat Ba Island, to nearly 70,000 intangible heritage sites that have been inventoried. Vietnamese literature and art have left behind many timeless works that reflect the nation's history and inspire pride and spiritual strength.
During the period 2021-2026, the sector marked remarkable progress: over 120 legal documents were issued, and comprehensive administrative reforms were implemented. UNESCO recognized Ha Long Bay - Cat Ba as a World Natural Heritage Site; hundreds of national relics and treasures were restored; the cultural industry contributed nearly 4.4% to GDP; tourism recovered strongly, and for many consecutive years was honored as a leading destination in Asia. High-performance sports maintained a top 3 ranking at the SEA Games, and the women's football team participated in the 2023 World Cup for the first time. The press and media underwent strong digital transformation, continuing to play a pioneering role in shaping society. According to Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Van Hung, by 2031, the sector aims to build a system of Vietnamese cultural values, people, and families nationwide; 100% of provinces and cities will have all three cultural institutions; at least 5 heritage sites will be inscribed by UNESCO; and the cultural industry will contribute 7% to GDP. In sports, the sector won Olympic medals; tourism welcomed 50 million international visitors and 160 million domestic tourists, generating total revenue of 130-135 billion USD. Looking back to move forward, Minister Nguyen Van Hung emphasized that the sector needs to both maintain the momentum of preserving core values and create new momentum to promote creativity and innovative thinking, affirming its pivotal role in the sustainable development of the country.

Young people have become more interested in traditional culture.
