On February 1, the Department of Engineers (Military Command of Nghe An province) said that this unit had just coordinated with local authorities of Ky Son district to successfully detonate an intact 2kg bomb. detonator in Nam Can commune (Ky Son district, Nghe An province).
Previously, on January 29, Mr. Nhang Van Son (residing in Pa Ca village, Nam Can commune) was digging the foundation to build a house when he discovered a bomb underground. Mr. Son immediately reported the incident to the Nam Can Commune Military Command and Ky Son District Military Command for support in handling.
Upon receiving the news, the functional forces of Nam Can commune, Ky Son district were present at the scene to block off the bomb area and organize 24/24 guarding to prevent people and vehicles from getting close.
Approaching the scene, the authorities determined that the above object was a bomb left over from the war. This is an M1 bomb, with a diameter of 117cm, a length of 40cm, and a weight of about 126kg with the detonator intact.
The Department of Engineers, Military Command of Nghe An province then deactivated the bomb's detonator and moved to Truong Son hill area (Nam Can commune) for safe destruction.
