At the seminar, Deputy Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Van Phuc stated that research into the experiences of Asian countries shows that many journals from countries in this region such as Japan, South Korea, and Singapore are included in the ISI/Scopus index. Notably, South Korea has over 300 journals in the Scopus index.
According to the Deputy Minister, developing domestic scientific journals that integrate with those in the region and around the world is an important task. In the future, scientists will be able to publish articles in domestic journals that meet international quality and standards.
Deputy Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Van Phuc speaks at the seminar.
According to the Deputy Minister, there are currently 32 scientific journals affiliated with higher education institutions under the management of the Ministry of Education and Training, excluding member universities of regional universities. Recently, the Ministry has supported 18 journals in developing plans to achieve ACI accreditation, and 2 journals in achieving Scopus accreditation.
Speaking at the seminar, Professor Dr. Nguyen Trong Hoai, Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Asian Business and Economic Studies (JABES) - University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City, shared his insights. JABES, formerly known as the Journal of Economic Development, is a scientific journal in the field of economics and business, comprising two versions that follow the common practices of international journals: a Vietnamese version (JABES-V) and an English version (JABES-E).
Based on the specific situation of JABES, Professor Nguyen Trong Hoai presented six important steps needed to prepare for official indexing in WoS and Scopus.
First, prioritize investing in a complete English-language version of the journal that adheres to international standards and has a history of at least 10 years, having established a strong academic reputation domestically. Next, the journal's name must be international in nature, not specific to a particular organization or country, and must not be identical to any other journal's name.
The journal must meet the core standards of WoS and Scopus, and must also be linked to the online platform of an international publisher.
Furthermore, the quality of articles and recognition are progressively improved to meet the journal's criteria for article quantity and quality. Finally, the journal's current status needs to be analyzed against WoS and Scopus criteria to ensure it exceeds the required thresholds and to prepare a submission for review.
