In the field of tourism, Dong Nai city is considered to have sufficient potential and resources to create high-quality and unique products. However, in recent times, this potential has not been exploited to its full potential, despite significant attention, support, and efforts from local leaders at all levels.

It is necessary to make good use of resources for tourism development.

Dong Nai possesses all the advantages to develop ecotourism in its forests, waterfalls, and lakes; modern entertainment areas; and world-class, multi-billion dollar tourism projects. However, to ensure the strong development of these resources, experts and travel businesses believe that Dong Nai needs more rational tourism development strategies.

As one of the businesses specializing in providing world-class adventure and cave exploration tours in Quang Tri province, having transformed a poor region into a world-class adventure tourism center, Mr. Nguyen Chau A, Director of Oxalis Co., Ltd. (Oxalis, Quang Tri province), commented on Dong Nai tourism: "In my opinion, the biggest advantage of Dong Nai tourism today is its untapped potential. Dong Nai has resources in nature, culture, sports , and MICE tourism (tourism combined with conferences, seminars, exhibitions, and event organization)... However, Dong Nai needs a strategy to develop its products, which is also a way to attract investors." Although Dong Nai believes that the upcoming operation of Long Thanh International Airport will create opportunities for tourism development, in reality, despite being close to Tan Son Nhat Airport, which receives 10 million international visitors annually, Dong Nai has not yet attracted many tourists. This is because Dong Nai has lacked high-quality, unique products to attract visitors.

According to Mr. Nguyen Chau A, it's not necessary to invest heavily to create a good product; a good product is one that is unique, creative, and high-quality. Once a product is established and the tourism market is vibrant, attracting a large number of visitors, attracting more large investors will no longer be difficult. And when the product is diversified, tourists will feel that Dong Nai is worth spending money on and visiting.

Tourism in Dong Nai must develop sustainably on the foundation of nature conservation, especially the forest ecosystems in Cat Tien National Park, Bu Gia Map National Park, Dong Nai Nature and Culture Reserve, and the protective forest system throughout the city. Simultaneously, it must strongly apply technology for smart management and destination promotion, creating the most convenient experience for tourists in the digital age.

Similarly, Mr. Pham Huu Hien from Binh Duong University (Ho Chi Minh City) shared: "I am conducting research on tourism in Dong Nai city. During my research, I found that Dong Nai should focus on developing community-based tourism, leveraging the cultural heritage of the ethnic minorities living in the area. This is a resource that is well-suited for community-based tourism development. Moreover, this is a tourism model that is showing promising growth. Dong Nai also needs to develop some unique tourism products based on its historical, cultural, and natural conditions, which can be leveraged to create tourism events as suggested by experts. Besides that, changing the current approach to promoting the value of Dong Nai's cultural heritage is also a long-term issue." Currently, historical and cultural sites are being exploited in an outdated way, lacking the richness to attract tourists. Therefore, the tourism industry needs to create stories that allow visitors to come and "live" with the heritage.

“For community-based tourism businesses, Dong Nai's tourism industry needs policies to support people's development. We hope the city will pay more attention to the ethnic minority areas in the northern part of Dong Nai, where there is still a vast layer of cultural heritage, with much potential for tourism development, and the ethnic minorities themselves also wish to develop tourism,” Mr. Pham Huu Hien shared.

Dong Nai tourism aims for a green future.

According to the revised Dong Nai Provincial Planning for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050, Dong Nai will experience strong urban and tourism development. Accordingly, Dong Nai City will promote the implementation of high-class urban, tourism, and resort projects along rivers, mountains, and lakes, focusing on developing urban-tourism-service areas adjacent to Long Thanh Airport… By 2030, Dong Nai will identify two areas as new driving forces for the city's development: the Long Thanh Airport urban area and the Dong Nai River corridor area. The Dong Nai River corridor area will utilize the Dong Nai River as the dynamic economic development axis of the city.

Dong Nai will strengthen the protection and balanced, rational development of the green landscape along the entire riverbank, combined with selective models of service, urban, and ecotourism development. This will involve harmoniously linking the riverside landscape with inter-city development, specifically a compact, multi-functional urban development model (housing, offices, commerce) concentrated along high-capacity public transport routes such as the metro. Several key tourist routes are planned, including: the riverside areas of Tan Phu - Dinh Quan; Tri An Lake; Tan An - Tan Trieu; Bien Hoa - Long Thanh; Nhon Trach; and the lower Dong Nai River, which are oriented as gateway urban areas to the East and Southeast of the region, developing new urban areas, tourism, commerce, services, and seaports.

Furthermore, Dong Nai also affirms the development of the cultural industry, the development of high-quality cultural, sports, and tourism products and services, linked with strengthening cooperation and linkages with provinces in the region, neighboring countries, and internationally. Simultaneously, it aims for sustainable tourism development linked to environmental protection, nature conservation, and the promotion of forest values and ethnic cultural values, developing both domestic and international tourism. Investment will be made in building and upgrading technical infrastructure and human resources for the tourism sector; focusing resources on infrastructure investment and strengthening connections between tourist areas and destinations. It encourages and calls for corporations and businesses to invest in key tourist areas such as Tri An Lake, Thac Mo Lake, Ba Ra Mountain, Chua Chan Mountain - Nui Le Lake, Mai Waterfall - Nuoc Soi Lake, Cat Tien National Park, Bu Gia Map National Park, and the Dong Nai Nature and Culture Reserve.

Speaking at the scientific conference on the development orientation of tourism in Dong Nai city in the new phase, Standing Committee member of the City Party Committee and Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Dong Nai city, Le Truong Son, stated that Dong Nai currently has two national parks and many large lakes, including Tri An Lake, the largest artificial lake in the country. Along with Tri An Lake, the Ba Ra - Thac Mo Lake area is one of two locations planned as a national tourism zone. Besides its natural advantages, Dong Nai also possesses outstanding and distinctive cultural values such as Bom Bo village, Ta Lai community village, Bu Gia Map... but still faces "bottlenecks" in transportation, services, and cuisine that cannot be fully exploited.

According to the Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Dong Nai City, Dong Nai will innovate its governance mechanisms and promote public-private partnerships for tourism development. This is not only the responsibility of the city's leaders but also of the commune and ward levels, especially for community-based tourism and sustainable ecotourism products linked to the unique natural and cultural characteristics of the area. Dong Nai is promoting many tourism development projects while creating a favorable environment to attract investors in the tourism sector in the future.
