Developing 5-star OCOP products.

Quang Ninh has a large-scale agricultural production with many existing potentials and strengths. The province's agricultural products are diverse, abundant, and unique. The spirit of continuous effort to innovate and improve products to increase competitiveness when participating in the OCOP Program has also been consistently implemented by localities and establishments. These conditions show that there is still great potential for developing 5-star OCOP products in Quang Ninh.

The Northeast Region OCOP Fair - Quang Ninh 2024 took place during the September 2nd holiday.

The One Commune, One Product Program in Quang Ninh province aims to develop 8-10 products achieving 5-star OCOP status by 2025. To accomplish this goal, various coordinated solutions have been implemented regularly and continuously by units and localities over the past years. This includes, in particular, reviewing, encouraging, and supporting distinctive products with strengths and meeting the criteria for submission to the central government for evaluation and recognition.

To date, Quang Ninh has 4 products ranked 5 stars in the OCOP program. These are Akoya pearls, Tahiti pearls, and Southsea pearls from Ha Long Pearl Joint Stock Company, recognized since 2021; and Quy Hoa Golden Flower Tea from Quy Hoa Trading, Service and Import-Export Company Limited (Hai Ha district), recognized since 2022. In addition, there are several other products recognized and highly rated for their potential to achieve 5 stars, such as: Ba Che Golden Flower Tea, oyster paste, Yen Tu apricot wine, Quang Hanh natural mineral water with added carbonation, and the health supplement Dong Bac 7-leaf Gynostemma Tea...

Mr. Pham Hoai Nam, Deputy Director of Quang Hanh Trade Union Mineral Water Company Limited, said: "The company has always prioritized building its brand based on the quality and reputation of its products to deliver them to consumers. This has been concretized by the company's consistent orientation over the years: to develop 5-star OCOP products that meet the standards for export to international markets. Therefore, the company continuously improves its factory facilities, upgrades machinery, and modernizes production lines for safety. Natural mineral water with added carbonation is a unique product, meticulously invested in from packaging and labeling to quality, ensuring high standards of food safety. Currently, all necessary procedures and documents have been completed and submitted to the Central Council for consideration and recognition according to regulations."

Even units with products that have achieved 5-star OCOP certification are closely guided by the province to continuously research, invest, and maintain quality to live up to the title. For example, Ha Long Pearl Joint Stock Company has continued to perfect its closed-loop grafting process in recent years, from breeding and cultivation to pearl processing. Notably, the company has focused on maintaining its semi-intensive pearl farming area, which has been certified ISO 14001-2015 for its environmental management system. In addition, the company's design and processing departments constantly update new designs and proactively develop more pearl products to meet the diverse aesthetic tastes and preferences of various customer groups...

Over the years, products participating in the OCOP Program have generally benefited from many support mechanisms and policies from the province and localities to continuously innovate, upgrade, and improve their ranking. Typical examples include: guidance and support for businesses to invest in upgrading equipment, expanding production activities, and applying food safety and quality management processes; guidance on designing product packaging and labels linked to building product narratives. Along with this, there has been increased training to equip participants with skills and capabilities in business management, quality management, food safety, intellectual property, raw material area code management, and the application of digital transformation linked to traceability requirements.

By continuously developing potential products while maintaining the quality of products that have already achieved 5-star OCOP certification, the province's approach has helped agricultural brands "made in Quang Ninh" clearly affirm their sustainable value in the hearts of modern consumers.

As of the end of June 2024, Quang Ninh province had 393 OCOP products rated from 3 to 5 stars. Of these, 296 products achieved 3 stars; 93 products achieved 4 stars; and 4 products achieved 5 stars. The province has 218 producers with products rated from 3 to 5 stars. Adapting to the Industry 4.0 era and undergoing strong digital transformation, 100% of OCOP products rated 3 stars or higher have now been listed on e-commerce platforms such as Voso, Postmart, Shopee, and Lazada, helping to expand their market reach to other provinces.

Quang Ninh's OCOP products have gradually established their position and brand in the hearts of consumers. This has contributed to the successful implementation of the campaigns "Vietnamese people prioritize using Vietnamese goods" and "Quang Ninh people prioritize using goods and services produced and traded within Quang Ninh province."
