Opening spaces for the dissemination of knowledge.

In April 2026, Hanoi Book Street (19th December Street, Cua Nam Ward) became a familiar meeting place for readers and tourists. In keeping with the spirit of the 5th Vietnam Book and Reading Culture Day - 2026, the area was transformed with vibrant decorations reflecting Hanoi's unique character. The stalls showcased thousands of book titles across various fields such as literature, science, technology, economics , history, and life skills. The highlight was from April 16th to 27th, with many engaging activities promoting books and reading culture. Notable events included seminars and discussions with authors and experts in the publishing and cultural fields on topics such as: "Books and the Cultural Industry," "Digital Transformation in the Publishing Industry," and "Writing Historical Stories for the Modern Era," all aimed at attracting readers, especially young people. Visiting Hanoi Book Street to find new books, Nguyen Khanh Chi, a student at Hanoi University of Culture, shared: “This time, Hanoi Book Street has many vibrant activities and many valuable new books. I am very excited to participate in the upcoming seminars and exchanges to gain more knowledge and access new information.”

Alongside Hanoi's Book Street, the city's library system also organized many meaningful activities. On Vietnam's National Book and Reading Culture Day (April 21st), the Hanoi Cultural and Library Center (Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports ) organized a knowledge festival with the theme "Books - Knowledge - Aspiration for National Development" at 47 Ba Trieu Street (Cua Nam Ward), featuring book displays, artistic book arrangements, and author interactions. Over 500 titles were selected on topics such as culture, history, integration, and national development, providing readers with comprehensive information.

Thematic talks such as "Books - A Bridge Between Past and Present" and interactions with writers and poets will provide opportunities for readers to gain a deeper understanding of the value of books. In addition, activities focusing on guiding reading skills, information searching, and utilizing digital resources will also be emphasized, meeting learning needs in the context of digital transformation.

At the National Library of Vietnam (31 Trang Thi Street, Cua Nam Ward), a series of events themed "Knowledge Stream - From Books to the Digital Space" offers novel experiences. Readers can participate in exhibitions about the development of books, a book cover design competition, a mini digital library, storytelling in English, and "Storytelling with AI"... Through these events, the community has the opportunity to access knowledge in diverse forms, thereby affirming the role of knowledge and creativity as important drivers for the development of individuals and society in the digital age.

Communes, wards, schools, clubs, and publishing units throughout Hanoi are also simultaneously organizing various activities in response to the "5th Vietnam Book and Reading Culture Day - 2026" to spread the love of books and form reading habits in the community.

Building a solid foundation for a learning society.

The 5th Vietnam Book and Reading Culture Day - 2026 holds special significance in the context of the ongoing digital transformation. All activities are geared towards the overarching message: “Books - Knowledge - Aspiration for National Development”, “Reading Culture in the Digital Age”, “Developing Reading Culture - the Foundation for Building a Learning Society”, and “Spreading Reading Culture - Connecting Knowledge - Developing a Learning Society”.

Director of the Hanoi Center for Culture and Library Tran Tuan Anh affirmed that the "5th Vietnam Book and Reading Culture Day - 2026" will be enthusiastically organized in the capital city to further affirm the role and importance of books in enhancing knowledge, educating and cultivating human character; encouraging and developing the reading movement among all strata of the population. This aims to build a learning society, create a beautiful aspect in the social life of the capital, and contribute to building elegant and civilized Hanoians. This is also an opportunity to honor readers, authors, librarians, those who preserve, collect, and promote books, while simultaneously raising the responsibility of all levels, sectors, and society towards developing reading culture and the reading movement in the city.

In response to this year's Vietnam Book and Reading Culture Day, Chairman of the People's Committee of Cua Nam Ward, Nguyen Quoc Hoan, stated that, with direct management of the most popular reading culture space in the capital – Hanoi Book Street – the ward has changed its organizational methods, renewing many contents to increase interaction, expand experiential spaces, and connect the community. Along with its nine years of formation and development, Hanoi Book Street has now become a typical cultural destination of the city.

For those in the publishing industry, the Director and Editor-in-Chief of the Vietnam Women's Publishing House, Khuc Thi Hoa Phuong, affirmed that organizing activities this April contributes to spreading reading culture to all people in Hanoi, further fostering the habit of self-learning, learning citizens, and building a lifelong learning society through the development of reading habits and reading culture in the community.

However, for reading culture to truly become the foundation of a learning society, the whole society needs to work together. Integrating reading culture development into the regular work programs of all levels and sectors; promoting social participation; and supporting disadvantaged groups in accessing books… are solutions that need to be implemented synchronously and regularly.
