The film doesn't have a novel plot, nor is it a meticulously crafted script. What keeps viewers engaged is its closeness to real life. From the wife sacrificing her career to nurture the family, to the husband gradually changing with money and status, to the appearance of a young, ambitious "mistress"... all are familiar motifs but they strike a chord with the very real anxieties in modern married life.

The film's success also stems from the cast's ability to evoke strong emotions. Le Phuong continues to demonstrate her strength in portraying women who have suffered greatly. Her ability to control her emotions, avoiding excessive self-pity but still conveying enough pain, makes the character Thanh Mai relatable. Meanwhile, Ngan Hoa creates a truly controversial "mistress" character, leaving viewers on the edge of their seats with her ruthlessness and shamelessness.
